Hi,
I just want to pass on some information that my girlfriend messaged to me last night. She received a message from her cousin saying there was an encounter between the Army and NPA in Lubilan, Naawan last night .So if anybody lives there please be careful.

She pact a bag quickly and is now safe.

Misamis Oriental, Mindanao

NPA attacks anywhere in Mindanao is always a worry that many of us here have to live with...what more can one do but keep a low profile & keep your head down.

They are also active on Negros island, especially the northern part (both Negros Occidental and Oriental).

Cherryann01

Does this not play on your mind, I have to admit knowing about such activity and the other terrorist organisations especially on Mindanao, does worry me. Saying that there have been recent terrorist attacks in France and Austria and there are no Government warnings about going to either of them.

Yes, it concerned me enough that I decided not to move to Negros. It is so beautiful there, but not worth the risk. At the time they had ambushed several police and a few officials, and killed a farmer who resisted their demands for money. I figured we might become a ransom target.

Cherryann01

Yeh my thoughts exactly, however getting my girlfriend to move to a safer location may prove impossible.

pnwcyclist

Why is that? She doesn't want to leave family? Or work?

If you're in the city you're probably safer than out in the countryside. The problem with northern Negros was it's really quiet, NPA are active, and foreigners stick out like a sore thumb. Easy to become a target. I would have been fine in the south of Negros, around Dumaguete. Have you considered that?

Cherryann01

No to be honest I have not asked her yet, I just get the feeling from reading other posts that families are very close there, so she may not want to move too far away from hers.

I have no problems with the NPA there are many groups in my provience, unlike the Government telling you they are winning the war, it is not true, the ranks of the NPA are growing a lot of young people are becoming part of it, and the lockdown mentality is not helping, I believe in some of what they are fighting for but some things no, I talk with some they never try and push their ideas just give their views
