Can RPT holder stay in Malaysia unemployed?

Post new topic

Hi, I am accessing the benefits of getting a RPT in malaysia. And I have this question. If I have RPT, what happens when I am unemployed? Are we allowed to stay in Malaysia without a job? If yes, for how long can we stay in malaysia without being employed or find a new employer? Really appreciate any inputs on this.

Yes, you can remain unemployed but at the time of RPT application, you must have employment for at least the next 3 months.

@rashesh any experience with RPT renewals wherein the principal RPT holder is unemployed at the time of renewal?

@Guest8772 Yes, you can be unemployed while holding the RP-T. RP-T being a residence pass, allows you to engage in any kind of activity (study, work, business) in Malaysia, or you could choose to do nothing at all. However, at the time of renewal after 5 years, you'll need to show previous two years of tax payments, each amounting to RM15K x 12 = RM 180K, which is the current minimum salary required for RP-T. This income can be from any activity, as long as it meets the criteria, your application will go through. You may refer to the RP-T renewal checklist here: https://rpt.talentcorp.com.my/clients/R … ist.V4.pdf

@pseu Shouldn't be an issue as long as you meet all the requirements in the renewal checklist: https://rpt.talentcorp.com.my/clients/R … st.V4.pdf.
