Hello, does anyone know if malaysia will open for tourists starting from January 1st, 2021, thanks in advance

No, They don't. The number of cases high in KL and Selangor. These 2 are Key Economic Areas so they don't open borders for tourists by Jan 1st, 2021. KL, Selangor and Some other states Still under CMCO

There is no such announcement by Government of Malaysia, however, only STUDENTS are allowed to enter from 1st Jan 2021.

No the MCO and entry restrictions have remained.

In fact, the government seems to have decided, as of December 31, 2020 that those tourists already "trapped" in Malaysia should leave with the next 14 days, or get a Special Pass if the need a few additional days (proved by their air-ticket). In fact it seems that leave Malaysia one needs a special pass issued by the Ministry of Immigration. I'm not sure why this is necessary (esp. if the "tourists" are bringing money into Malaysia) and what will happen if they overstay.
