Heya, I'm Shiela from NZ, my family & I are planning to relocate to Brisbane next year before the start of the school term, could you please advise on the best suburb/ area to live in with good school zone and gymnastics club. I am overwhelmed and I do not know where to start. And also we are bringing in 2 fur babies, would it be too costly to do so?? TIA

Butcherthemall

Hi Shiela, well Brisbane is great, I am from Melbourne though....if you looking for a gymnastics school the best place to start is a search online as to where they are located in Brisbane, if you find afew, read the reviews then decide accordingly, obviously you would also need to look at the distance for ur work... there are no shortage of schools whichever area you choose to live in but ur priority is the gymnastics classes right...sort that out then the rest will follow...if u want more info the we can chat on WhatsApp...

Not sure about the pets but that too could be answered if you called the airline you choose to travel with and some online search...hope this helps!!! good luck

Hello

Welcome to expat

lorddrwilson

Hi everyone
My wife and I live in Australia and have traveled Indonesia/Asia and love it, though certainly missing it these days. I would love to retire in Bali, Cambodia, Vietnam or Thailand as the cost of living is way cheaper than living here in Australia. My wife wants to stay in Australia but when it costs us $70k per year to live in Australia and approx $13-$15k per year to live there, it kind of makes sense to me.. I am looking for a comfortable retirement without the stress of money and having to watch every cent we spend... It would also be a bonus to have something left to leave the kids when we are gone..
Hopefully the boarders will start opening up this year and we can get another fix of paradise..

I have a vast experience (40 years) and have traveled extensively and been based in Europe for 20 odd years and around South East Asia and the Pacific region, should there be someone who is investing or even planning to open an International restaurant, cafe or even a bistro and looking for some to start up the kitchen and teach and train the kitchen hands please do get in touch with me.
Or if you already have a restaurant and you are interested in expanding your business by adding additional Asian or European dishes on your menu.I am looking for a six month one contract or even more if you are interested but not more than a year.

Hello everyone!

I am Paria from Canada...looking forward to learning about your relocation experiences!
Right now with the restrictions on entry for non-residents, relocation to AU is not feasible.  Must wait till AU govt lifts the restrictions...hopefully soon! :-)

Hoping everyone is safe and healthy!

vicbliz

Vic Here from Queensland Australia,
A little about me:
27 years as Volunteer Rural Firefighter in Qld
7 years as Vice President of the Burrum District Community Men's Shed.
Ran my own  import/export business in the commercial embroidery industry for 25 years. Retired in 2006 but like to keep my hand in the pie, so as to speak.
Have holidayed in Indonesia and we had a great time. Now international travel is out of the question so looking for other things to keep me interested.
Would like to make contact with Aussie Expats living in East Java and ask a favour to check out a company I am considering entering into a new business venture here.
We now take our holidays in Australia and have bought a caravan and VW Touareg to haul it and we are enjoying life.
However, living on the same income today as when we retired in 2006 sucks (self funded retirees with no govt benefits) hence the idea of getting back into a casual import business

MayaKay

Hi Thank you for the welcome :-)

Well I'm a recently retired Singaporean planning to move in late October 2021 to Geelong,  where my son and family live.
I'll make the move on my Contributory Parent Visa which was granted last year in November; but because of what's going on around us, I haven't made the move yet.

I don't plan to to work in Australia, and once settled, would like to belong to this community and engage in some activities.

At the moment I have one question  - Currently I'm paying 10% non-resident  tax on the interest I earn in my CBA Account.  Will I move to a higher tax bracket (as resident) immediately on becoming a PR, or will I get a one-year window to transfer my assets from Singapore to Australia? Thank you!

Good Morning to all members and thanks for allowing us to post a few questions on this platform.
I'm originally from the USA and my husband is from Melbourne. We don't know anyone in WA.
We've been living in Mornington Peninsula, Victoria for 30 years and our two adult sons have flown the coop!
We're currently selling our home and will be moving to Perth ASAP. We will rent for 6 months before deciding on location to purchase or build.  Its been difficult to find current information about living in Perth so I thought this platform is a good start.
Hope you all can advice us!  Warm regards to everyone!

pasanesoft

Hi,
I am Pasan from Sri Lanka. I am willing to move to Australia under the skilled visa category. I am a newbie for the entire process and learning from the beginning. I am highly grateful, if someone can guide me on how to do that.

Thanks.

Hi everyone!

I'm Marina, I'm 28 years old and I'd like to have the opportunity to get a job in Australia, mostly because I'm bilingual (Spanish is my mother tongue and I'm fluent in English) and although I'm an English teacher here in Argentina, I'd also work as a translator and in tourism (receptionist or an administrative job in hotels). I'd also like to know more about Australian culture and customs in general.

Hope you have a very nice Sunday!

Cheryl

Hello Marina Abrahamsson,

Welcome to Expat.com

Since you are looking for a job, I would advise you to create your CV in the Jobs in Australia section.

Meanwhile, I invite you to read the Living in Australia guide and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask them on the forum by creating a new thread.

Best of luck.  ;)

Cheers,

Cheryl
