Is there any chance for a foreigner to get a work pass in more simpler jobs, like garbage man, or hiking guide, or taxi driver?

beppi

There is no hiking in a dense city state like Singapore - and taxi driving is one of the (very few) professions reserved for locals.
But other menial jobs (incl. Garbage collection) are almost entirely done by third-world foreigners on Work Permit (WP), who work for little money and under bonded-labour-like circumstances.

Hi,

My little family and I are considering moving to Singapore for work. I am a Deputy Headteacher in a UK Primary school (Elementary School Deputy Principal) and we are looking at International schools (We've previously lived in Shanghai.)
Our son (6) is disabled so we need to investigate what life is like for people with disabilities in Singapore. What are medical services like? What is accessible like? What about housing? We have many questions!
If you can point us in the direction of relevant support services or charities, basically where to begin, we'd really appreciate it!

beppi

Services and accessibility for diabled in Singapore has improved in the last 20 years, but is still far behind what you know from Britain. But after having lived in Shanghai, you probably know how to deal with it, right?

Hi everyone, am Rockson Mensah from Ghana
A young university graduate who is aspiring to seek greener pasture not necessarily to get money but to seeker a better future for myself and my younger siblings .
Completed university 2years ago and find work very difficult over here in Ghana.
I wish to move to Singapore at least to find something to do and also further my education
I hold a bachelors degree in Education ( Management & Ecinomics) from University of Cape Coast - Ghana.
I don’t know where to begin my traveling dream from and I really needs help.
Help me guys!

Abeikurockson: Welcome to the forum, in which you can find lots of advice on how to move to Singapore. Read it first and come back with more detailed questions (that have not yet been discussed).
Just three comments: You normally need at least three years of good work experience to find a job and get a work visa here. You can only work OR study here - here is no visa type to do both. And you cannot sponsor your siblings to come here, only your children and/or parents (subject to high salary thresholds).

Please with two years working experience together with a year national services experience be enough for me to secure a job in Singapore?

beppi

Only MoM can decide that - in a work pass application (to be submitted by an employer who wants to hire you).

abeikurockson99

Please how can I get an employer to hire me in order to work on my work pass for me so I can start my journey of traveling to Singapore.

You have to apply for jobs and convince the employer (in your CV, cover letter and the interviews) that you are the right person for their purpose. Is that any different in your country?

abeikurockson99

No please .Thank you very much. Am grateful for kind responses.

Zulesie: The employer must get entry approval before you are allowed to travel.
Do not book a flight before this is completed!

Hi,
I am  Shiva Lived in Singapore for more than 16 Years and moved to Gulf Country in 2013 due to additional responsibility from the same company I worked for.
Once again opportunity to work in Singapore is on the way. The employer applied for EP and received a mail from  mom_newdelhi@mom.gov.sg stating that all charges were on 6 Dec.21.
As per the assigned agent located in India, I have to pay first on a refundable basis and pay even after a lot of confusion.  Till now Mom's live EP status does not show the status  (No Record found) and I have asked for Application Ref Number to confirm they applied.
Now my concern is how I can make sure it's real?
Is that mail address mom_newdelhi@mom.gov.sg part of Singapore MOM?
I appreciate your valuable time in this clarification.
Thanks

beppi

Shiva: MoM‘s application fee has to be borne by the employer. It is not allowed (by law) to charge the job seeker for it.
Furthermore, the fee is moderate - I heard around S$70.
If your employer has engaged a bad agent to deal with this, you should inform them and in future skip the agent - deal with the employer directly instead!

shiva69ss

Thanks for the response.
I am approaching mom in this regard.
Thanks again

Hello everyone, my name is Jake and I am trying to get a job in Singapore. I've gotten degrees in film/tv from the USA (bachelor's) and Australia (2 master's). Right now I am in Cabo Verde and am struggling to find work there due to my lack of experience. I left Australia because of Covid kinda made finding work in my field difficult (graduated this year). Why Singapore? I've always wanted to live there.

So I keep applying but being able to get a personal touch or connection that could give me a boost up would be great. FYI this is a career change for me my prior work being in IT for about a decade. Really could use some help at all thanks!

beppi

Jake (Deuteragonist): I hate to discourage you, but to get a work visa for Singapore you have to bring something that the economy needs and that is not available in the local population. Without applicable work experience in film making - and with only an economically miniscule local film making industry, this seems unlikely.
Of course you may be lucky (or unusually skilled in convincing employers and authorities) - so network furiously in the scene (or, probably, the two scenes, as I heard there are Chinese and Malay film makers - do you speak any of these languages?).

Wong YH

Hello guys, it's Wong YH here. I am local here and interested in learning languages. Currently focused on German and a tiny bit of Turkish.
I like long walks or hikes in nature and cycling, otherwise it drawing besides language learning.

On a side note,If someone willing too as well, I'd like to learn more about Islam as well

Hope to meet new people and friends here! Have a great 2022 ahead!
