It depends on your nationality.  If you're a Czech citizen, there could be a problem, because you fall under a "90 days in every 180" rule, and ordinarily would not be able to extend.   Check with the Federal Police to confirm.

So i heard there is 60 days tourist visa exemption due to covid restrictions for citizens of countries not eligible to extend regular 90 days visa. Can someone confirme this information please?

Inubia

Consider it an option to fly to, well, either FLL or, just for fun, ADD, and then to Europe from there..... if there is a will there is a way ....

Jano Baca

It’s not that much necessary to get to Europe this month, better for me to wait one month until the covid situation will improve and more countries will be open for passengers traveling from Brazil

Hi All, I'm in state of Parana. Trying to get 90 day visa renewed. Curitiba is the nearest place to me, but they don't allow going without an appointment. We were told we could only make an appointment on line, but online is not working and they know this fact. They said just try every day at 9:30 am. My initial 90 Day visa runs out tomorrow, been trying for this 26 days.
Maybe the new rules will automatically extend my visa, because it runs out after March 16th, but not sure can't get any info from fed. Police.
Any info would be helpful.
Loving it here.
Thanks

Jano Baca

What date did you arrive in Brazil please?

usamatt

Arrived Brazil Dec. 25th

Jano Baca

I’m asking because i arrived on December 30. and the FP officer told me that my last day of visa validity is March 30

usamatt

Update:  Went to FP in Curitiba yesterday to renew 90 visa. All went very well. Once there it took only 45 minutes. May initial 90 visa was 1 or 2 Days expired, but it was no problem, no questions, no fines.
No appointment was necessary ( after being told for 3 weeks, by a secretary, that appointment was needed ) , I just showed up. Only a limited number of documents were checked. I also brought someone who speaks Portuguese ( not really needed ). Received additional 90 day visa. Great experience.

Does anybody know whether it is possible to go to Policia Federal (Agua Branca (Lapa)) in Sao Paulo to extend a tourist visa without an appointment?

Also are they closed during super feriado in SP and Rio now?

brasilienfreund20

Not sure if we're talking about the 90 visa free stay extension or tourist visa, but I just went to PF in Lapa without appointment. You don't have to wait in line, you just go to the main entrance and they'll tell you to go to the second floor to visa extensions.

Jano Baca

I’m talking about free stay extension which normally can’t be extended for Schengen citizens but due to a pandemic it’s possible to extend of 3 more months. I just went to the Florianopolis airport FP department and told them that my flight to Europe scheduled last week was canceled, then i payed 110 Reals tax and got 90 days extension without any requirements, really quick and easy procedure

brasilienfreund20

hey Jano,

nice to hear that. I received 60 days for 100 reais in Sáo Paulo. So you got a bargain lol :)

Thank God they make it really easy.

brasilienfreund20

Also, not sure where you're from in Europe. But I booked my flight back with LATAM. Sáo Paulo - Madrid.

I paid around 250 euros and the flight was completely empty, so every passenger had his own line to sleep. I was very happy.

choi9123

Thank you for sharing your experience. By the way, did you have to pay the fee in advance, 72 hours prior to your request of your visa extension of were you able to just pay on site? 90 days one, not 60 days.

brasilienfreund20

I went to the PF one week before my 90 days limit and I was told that I should come back on my first overstay day in order to pay one day fine of 100 reais.

So I believe that PF can't issue the extension during the legal 90 days stay.

Jano Baca

You have to ask PF at the airport when exactly you have to aply for extension because these rules changed just last week and i think now it’s necessary to go there before your free entry is expired

choi9123

usamatt, Did you pay in advanced, your GRU? Or were you able to pay it on site?

Really did not know what topic to place this.

What happens if someone just overstays? Will he have to pay the full fine, depending on how long?
A friend of mine (from Switzerland ) will have overstayed his 3 months by about 25 days by the time of his flight back home. He thinks that since his flight was canceled by the airline (he has booked with the Portuguese TAP, and Portugal has suspended commercial flights with Brazil), there will be no fine. Is he right?

abthree

In his shoes, I would talk to the Federal Police beforehand.   If not, I would go to the airport prepared to pay.

Texanbrazil

I would not believe not being fined. If s/he has documentation s/he should go to PF and ask. OF cna help.
Now they will allow you to leave without paying a fine, but the fine is $R100/day and will continue. He wanted to return in 180 days it would be $R100 x 180 + 100/day on the original stay.

So the fines aren’t collected when you leave the country, but only if you try to enter again? That’s good to know, because he’ll definitely want to come again, I think still this year.
What does OF mean?

Texanbrazil

Typo PF can help
They may not collect but be prepared on return on fines and interest have to be paid at the point of entry.

And while there is a maximum fine, there's no maximum on interest:  it will keep accruing until the fine is paid, and with a long enough delay, can equal or exceed the original fine.

A Brazilian friend just got off the phone with the Federal Police, they told him that because of the pandemic, overstaying tourists won’t be fined and he doesn’t need to do anything. Of course that was just a phone call, he doesn’t have anything in writing and there’s no guarantee that he won’t run into problems at the airport, but that’s what they told us.

The best bet in any overstay situation -- even if you think that the fine is a sure thing -- is to go to the airport prepared to pay, but always let the Federal Police officer bring the subject up first.  Their decision is final, and if they don't tell you that there's a fine, then there is no fine.  If they do, you're ready.

Texanbrazil

Kind of scary being a minor.
Go to GRU. They are always open and many agents speak English. Do not know much about CGH since I only use for domestic flight to SP, They do have Pf and RF
As to fine(s), it is $R100 per day, and the clock started back in late Sept., but many PF offices have been helpful in relaxing such,
DO not believe  " you can pay the fine(s) when re-entry". While true PF does add interest on all multas.
