Alta

Hi there,
I am immigrating to Mauritius from JHB to marry a Mauritian citizen and reside there. I have already registered a company there.

Problem is with Covid and travel bans its proving a nightmare.

I've emailed Mauritian Tourism Authority and await a reply.

I've also tried booking via Kenya or Dubai and either very expensive or no flights.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Regards

QUARANTINE PERIOD EXTENDED TO 15 FEBRUARY 2021

The Cabinet took the decision on Friday 18 December 2020 to extend the quarantine period in Mauritius from 15 January 2021 to 15 February 2021. Quarantine will therefore be mandatory for all passengers entering Mauritius until that date. Regulations will be amended accordingly by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

Prohibition will also be extended until 15 February 2021, for aircraft and ships to enter Mauritius unless they are authorised by the local authorities.

The latest from Air Mauritius: all flights upto 28 March taken off the booking system:

Air Mauritius has cancelled inventory out of the system until March 28 – a fortnight before Easter on April 12.
But the airline says this is not a definitive date for the resumption of services between South Africa and Mauritius, as it expects a phased reopening of its borders to visitors of different nationalities.

“The inventory is open from March 28 but we cannot say definitely when operations will resume between South Africa and Mauritius, as the borders are opening in a phased process, initially for residents, nationals, work permit holders and long-stay visitors. The next phase for reopening is only for France and Réunion,” said a representative from Air Mauritius, who confirmed that the airline would be extending flexible booking conditions to affected passengers.

Hi

i just want to update all SA expats who have already done application for residence permit and received pre-approval from EDB, as flights / travellers are currently banned from SA until 28 Feb (and most probably will be extended until end of march), that EDB has extended the 90 day period to come to mauritius to 31 March and they will extend further in March if needed. They gave me this update today itself.

with the Mauritius border opening to all Vaccinated travellers on 1 October 2021, I enquired again from Air Mauritius about their MK851/852 flights between Johannesburg JNB and MRU, I received the following answer:

“The only scheduled flight thus far is Friday  23 July (Tomorrow) which is a repatriation flight.  These flights are managed by the Mauritius high Commission in Mauritius and our head office.”

“ Depending on the opening of border and travel protocols for travel from RSA the 1st scheduled operation is 05Nov21”.              Letitia Staebe, MK

Thanks, watching closely.  We have lots of clients that combine Africa with the island and all go from Jhb to the island, say combining the Kruger and the island.  If they allow South Africans then all good, if they don't then we need to hear if they will at least allow transitting clients.... interesting to hear what your Government does come 1 October.  The vaccine rates are stepping up quickly in SA, so there is hope the island will find this acceptable.

this morning’s update on flights:

No MK flights, but MRU ops sure of Oct 1 reopening

Air Mauritius has cancelled all flights between South Africa and Mauritius until November 5.

But operators are certain that all-comers, including vaccinated SA residents, will be welcome on the island come October 1.

“We wish to advise that all operations from October 21 have now been cancelled. The first flights will operate from November 5 but this is dependent on the opening of borders and travel protocols for travel from South Africa,” said reservations supervisor for Air Mauritius South Africa, Letitia Staebe, in a statement distributed to the trade this morning.

“This is a case of the airline doing forward planning for its routes and taking a cautious approach to flight reinstatement. It does not relate to Mauritius’s official reopening,” said World Leisure Holidays md, Ramesh Jeenarain. “All the formal communications that have been received from the Mauritian government continue to indicate that vaccinated travellers from all nationalities will be permitted to return to the island from October 1.”

Beachcomber md, Terry Munro, was also adamant that the Mauritian ban on travel to and from South Africa would be lifted by October 1.

“There has been no communication from the Mauritian government that their plans have changed and I have assurances from very good sources that South Africa will be included in the island’s reopening on October 1. I am 100% confident of this. Mauritius has already vaccinated 40% of its population and remains on track to achieve herd immunity by the end of October. Fully vaccinated passengers from all destinations will be allowed to return to the island without the need to quarantine from October 1, on presentation of a negative PCR test result,” said Terry.

On the subject of how passengers would get to the island on October 1, both Ramesh and Terry felt  once the island saw the way ahead clear to reopen, the flights would follow. “Once the island has officially reopened to South Africans it will not be difficult for Air Mauritius to reinstate flights,” surmised Ramesh.

More seats Johannesburg to Mauritius as Comair plans to resume flights from September

source:
https://www.travelnews.co.za/article/mo … icle-title

Today 01:50 - by Sarah Cornwell

Exciting news for agents and Indian Ocean operators is that Comair plans to add Mauritius inventory to agency sales displays before the end of this week.

Comair executive manager, Brian Kitchin, confirmed that the loading of Mauritius flights was imminent and added that seats should appear in the system in a few days.

Pent-up demand

Agents and operators have reported significant pent-up demand for Mauritius packaged holidays, and they will be celebrating every flight that is added to the pool.

Beachcomber Tours md, Terry Munro, welcomed the extra airline capacity ahead of the island’s reopening in October.

“We are over the moon with bookings pouring in and our staff are working hectically to deal with the huge interest that is now coming in for travel to Mauritius. In October, the flights are far too few and October 1 and 8 are booked out,” said an ebullient Terry.

He called December demand “incredible”. “We will be so excited when BA/Comair puts on its flights to Mauritius. We need many more flights to be put on for December to meet the demand.”

On Wednesday, August 18, while the Department of Education was still discussing plans to scrap the week-long October school holiday to make up for lost learning days due to the coronavirus pandemic, Terry was pragmatic about the implications for travel. “It will be a big pity if school holidays are cancelled, as the tourism industry and travellers need some stability and not this chopping and changing all the time.

“We look forward to substantial business to Beachcomber Hotels in the coming months, and are blown away with the huge demand we are currently seeing.”

Just the start

Meanwhile, Flight Centre South Africa gm, Bianca Mazur, said demand could spike again once Mauritius’s border was officially reopened and confidence about travel rules had set in.

Bianca described huge interest in Mauritius. “The 40-45%-off Beachcomber special offer has certainly gained lots of interest, and there are still many customers with holiday credit on file.”

She said many travellers were reluctant to pay in full, choosing instead to pay deposits to secure their dates. Most bookings had been for travel in December, Bianca said. “Once the border is officially open and there is more commitment on the airlift side of things, I think the floodgates will open, as all South Africans love Mauritius.”

Comair called a temporary shut-down of its operations on July 5, after South Africa entered adjusted Level 4 lockdown when the COVID third wave hit the country. Brian confirmed that the airline was now going ahead with plans to resume services in September.

Asked when the business rescue process would end for the airline, Brian said: “There are still a few legal processes under way here and overseas. Once these are complete, the business rescue practitioners will file a notice of substantial implementation.”

More flights as demand for Mauritius picks up

18 Oct 2021

source: https://www.tourismupdate.co.za/article … tius-picks

Air Mauritius is seeing a surge in bookings to the island following the reopening of the country’s borders on October 1.

To meet increased passenger demand, the airline is increasing its flights from key source markets.

“ The continued increase in the number of bookings on Air Mauritius highlights the confidence that domestic and international travellers have in the national airline. The decision to increase capacity was made after significant interest from countries including the UK, France and South Africa,” said Nilen Vencadasmy, Chairman of Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority.

The new services:

Air Mauritius will, from November 1, operate one daily flight to and from Paris CDG with an Airbus A350-900 aircraft in codeshare with Air France.
Simultaneously, Air France, in codeshare with Air Mauritius, will also operate a daily flight from Paris CDG to Mauritius as from the same date.
Also from November 1, Air Mauritius will operate three weekly flights to and from London Heathrow, which will then increase to five weekly flights during the Christmas and New Year peaks (from December 20 to January 15, 2022).
Continuing its close connection with Africa, Air Mauritius will operate seven weekly flights to Johannesburg using both the Airbus A350-900 and A330-900neo aircraft from November 7. Currently, there are four weekly flights.
Three daily flights will operate to Réunion from November 1, with a combination of wide-bodied and ATR72-500 aircraft.
With the continued increase in demand and confidence from international travellers, Air Mauritius will soon be adding other routes and connections to its offering.

Ken Arian, CEO of Airport Holdings Limited, the parent company of Air Mauritius, said: “Our new-look fleet, following the recent refinancing of Air Mauritius, allows us to increase our flight capacity for visitors from popular destinations globally.

“Air Mauritius continues to play a vital role in our country’s tourism industry, ensuring passenger flights to and from Mauritius are easily accessible and available. No efforts have been spared in the maintenance of strict health and safety protocols to provide the best experience possible, which has led to the decision to expand the number of flights over the coming season.”

He said the safety and well-being of passengers, crew and ground personnel were the topmost priority of the airline, with strict COVID-19 protocols enforced on all flights.

Sanitary kits containing surgical masks and sanitary gel are offered to all travellers on international flights and all Air Mauritius staff and crew are fully vaccinated.

Arian reiterated that the recent refinancing of the airline had also instilled confidence in those looking for an island getaway, knowing the airline was on a solid financial footing and was able to invest in its customer service offering, as well as new aircraft

I do not recommend Air Austral!  They have now also cancelled my husbands flight on the 30th November and told him he must now fly on the 28th November.... never mind his other flight connections or car hire or hotel reservations. they are a complete mess of an airline!
