Ola
Hopefully someone can advise.... i drove over in October  and i have been told i can only have my car here 6months before i have to import. I understand this can be a costly process however someone said if i do it before 6months its much cheaper?
Has anyone had experience?
I was also advised to check out Abbeygate insurance as that may be a way around having to import and pay fees. Does anyone know of this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Hej
we had the same issue when we imported our car from denmark. My tip is become member of the portuguese automobile club - not expensive - and they handle everything for you including insurance. for us this was perfect and they know how to do - for more infos ask me - best regards Elmar

Thankyou for your reply Elmar, did the automobile club import the car?
Im just wondering if theres away around having to import?

they did all the paperwork for us - they also speak english - i recommend you go to the next office close to you  - talk with them and they will assist - for legal reasons if you use the car longer then 6 months in portugal - it could be an issue - though police controls are not intense - but risk is if you have an accident, then things could become complicated. if car is part of your things you brought over to portugal - normally you do not pay any taxes - but again ask acp - automobile clube de portugal - abraço
