CHAMPVA & the loss of a spouse/dependent

Post new topic

Calif-Native

2020 was indeed one of the most difficult years in my life.  As I prepare to return to my home in Tagaytay, I am returning as a widower.  It has been even more challenging as I have had to process my wife as a dependent thru VA (without a SSN) and get all docs prepared for the CHAMPVA application.  I would like to remind any American expats that have not processed their Philippine spouse into the US DEERS and have them in the system as being "On Award", it is time to do it.  I am blessed to be back in California, where I closed escrow n my new home and where I have an easy drive to the VA office.  However, the loss of a spouse is never a thing we are prepared for and to have to process VA documents after the fact, has added much stress.  I wish all the best in 2021 and look forward to returning by June.

Sorry about your loss...do stay safe & strong. Hope you do manage to get back here as planned.
Lets all just count the blessings that we already have (some more than others) also bear in mind that there are millions upon millions who don't have as many options as some of us do.
