Hello everybody,

We would like to take stock of the changing cost of living in Egypt, particularly in your city or region. The aim is to measure the impact that the health crisis may have had on your expenses.
This will help other expatriates on the spot and all those who would like to relocate there in the near or more distant future.

> What is the price of a property rental in Egypt? What about buying a property?

> How much does petrol cost or how much does it cost to use the various public transport services?

> How much do you spend on average on your weekly groceries in Egypt? Have you noticed a change in the price of staple foodstuff?

> What is the price of your health insurance? How much does seeing a general practitioner or specialist cost?

> How much are your children's school fees? What about the cost of childcare?

> How much do you spend on your regular bills (water, electricity, mobile phone package, internet subscription etc.) on a monthly basis?

> What budget do you set aside for your leisure activities in Egypt? What is the price of a cinema or concert ticket? How much does a subscription to a gym cost?

Do not hesitate to indicate any other price changes you may have in mind.

Many thanks,

Cheryl,

> What is the price of a property rental in Egypt? What about buying a property?

I was paying 1,300 USD / month for a 90 sqm apartment (two bedroom, kitchen/living room, one bathroom) in Zamalek at the end of December 2020. Buying property was not an option as I was staying there temporarily from the beginning (4 years).

N.A.

60 - 80 USD. Prices have generally risen over the last 24 months by approximately 10...20%, partly also due to adjusted exchange rates. However, I have not noticed a significant increase of food prices in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Electricity costs were varying very much from one month to the next, without a reasonable explanation (I guess, most of the times consumption is simply estimated and only later on being verified...). I was spending between 80 and 500 EGP (5 USD...35 USD). Water was included in my rent. Internet subscription was 400 EGP / 26 USD per month (4G package with Orange, 40 GB) and phone bill was around 100 EGP (7 USD) at Orange.

I was playing tennis three times per week totalling 900 EGP / 60 USD per week (including access to club, fees for the court and coach for one hour).

Hi Cheryl,

Regarding your Qs

> What is the price of a property rental in Egypt? What about buying a property?
Rent is from $500 to $1,500 or more furnished in good places depending on the location furniture, building and facilities. Any specific area to answer your more?

> How much does petrol cost or how much does it cost to use the various public transport services?
I don't advise you to use public transport except metro in some areas.
Petrol is around $ 0.5 per liter.

> How much do you spend on average on your weekly groceries in Egypt? Have you noticed a change in the price of staple foodstuff?
If you are eating at home $ 100 to $ 200 per week will be ok for that.

> What is the price of your health insurance? How much does seeing a general practitioner or specialist cost?
health Insurance varies the best is BUPA for a bit less than $ 5,000 per year for the highest category.
Seeing a doctor would cost between 300 to 700 egypt. Some are even 100 and I guess 400 is the average for good doctors as long as it is not something serious. Prices in EGP

> How much are your children's school fees? What about the cost of childcare?
International school average are between 70,000 to 120,000 per child per year grade 1 in EGP.

> How much do you spend on your regular bills (water, electricity, mobile phone package, internet subscription etc.) on a monthly basis?
water less than 100, electricity depending on you but normally less than 1000, mobile depending on you but less than 500 if you are not a chat box and inter less than 500 in EGP.

> What budget do you set aside for your leisure activities in Egypt? What is the price of a cinema or concert ticket? How much does a subscription to a gym cost?
Fun depends on you but you can say 500 to 1000 usd per month.
Best gym will be 700 or 800 usd per year normal good ones for 300.

Ghanem

I am planning to move to 6th of October city.  I am wondering how much is living there.  I think i will buy appartment and maybe rent out room to others.  How much would it be to buy and how much should i charge rent on room?

Also is there market areas, or mainly grocery stores such as carrfur?  How much would recommend on food per month?

I want to get excersise so how much is gym membership/ month or year?

3rd and final question is transportation.  I do not drive so how is the transportation system like and cost?  I am wondering about the safety about possible using bike or roller skate to go places instead of uber/ taxi or bus if possible.

Hi

I have noticed how, the cost of everyday living, have gone up, even though I am not a permanent resident yet, with each return, I find I am paying more, which I was told, by a store owner, it is mainly due, to the exchange rate.

With an issue of sorting, true and honest helpers, with those who are lining their pockets, such as the property tax, in Hurghada, where has a none resident, I as do others, rely, upon local solicitors, to advice and help.

So why are some solicitors, contacting foreign property owners, claiming they need, to re-registers their property, for a new property tax id number, for a large fee, with so many conflicting answers, what is the truth and what can, I and other foreign property owners do or go, to find the truth and not be ripped off, that we end up discouraged and keeping, other potential investors, friends and family away.

It is a shame, there is no one or place, where clear answers or help, maybe easily found and available.
