You don’t usually need a teaching diploma to teach here. There are many job requirements which don’t especially put an emphasis on having a teaching diploma( but yeah it is sometimes mentioned that it will be an added advantage).
The teaching jobs usually require you to have a master’s degree to teach at tertiary level but usually they also accept those with a bachelor’s and some years of experience (either in industrial or in educational sector- it really doesn’t matter but of course if you have had any teaching experience in the past it would be an “added advantage”).
And like in your case you do have job experience, it would usually not pose any problem.
Coming to the field in which you can teach it comes to the bachelor’s degree you have. As you have studied law; the subjects which you can teach would normally be law and management but also accounting ( I’ve had lawyers as teachers who were teaching me accounting).
The hardest task for you would be to find an open position. Your best bet would be the local universities or tertiary institutions.
The public universities here, usually advertise on their sites or the local newspapers for vacancies. I think the University of Mauritius, which is the largest public university here, looks for lecturers every year; as I have seen adverts at least once every year.
I am putting down some links for you to check out. But I think some of these positions might have expired. You can get an idea by looking at them.
The University of Mauritius-

The open university of Mauritius

These ones are private institutions where their law degrees are their highlights.
Middlesex University Mauritius- https://www.middlesex.mu
UOM Trust/Uclan Mauritius-

Unicity education hub- https://www.uniciti.mu/en/learn/higher- … HÉON-ASSAS
Their facebook-

This one’s provides law tuition for students studying towards the University of London’s international llb and also some other management courses but it is somewhat a really small institution though. https://www.facebook.com/clbsonline/
There is also the Charles Telfair Institute and the Amity University mauritius branch where you can try for management and finance teaching.
These ones are vocational institutions, where it may be a little tougher as their main areas of focus are technical fields;
The public one, which is also the largest in the country; The Mauritius Institute of Education http://www.mitd.mu/showdisplay.php?id=118 - though it sometimes looks for trainers in the field of management but the problem is they mostly employ people for one year contracts and they usually look for locals but if there is no candidates locally, they do accept foreigners. They also usually come up with new courses where they may look for instructors.
This one’s a private trade school but it offers law courses. https://www.vtimauritius.com
You can also try sending an open application if there are no open positions at the time being. The University of Mauritius, Charles Telfair Institute, Middlesex Mauritius, The open university of Mauritius, Unicity Education and UOM trust would be better options for this.
And I really don’t know about the curriculum of legal education in South Africa but here the coursework derives mainly from the UK and french legal systems. But I don’t think it would be a really big problem for you; you would only have to put some of the courseworks into the Mauritian and British context. But as I mentioned earlier, you can easily be accepted in a position for management or finance tutor.
As for maths or science field they may require a bachelor’s or diploma in that specific field but it totally depend on the institutions.
And there are also many people who opt to study the University of London’s international distance llb course here. If you are successful in securing a job here; you can also offer private tuitions to these students. You really don’t need a permit or anything for this.
And if everything goes smoothly; you can launch a scuba centre here to teach people. For this one maybe you would require some kind of permit; I really don’t know. But it should not be too hard. And you can partner with hotels and marine NGOs or if you’re not too overpriced, I think you would get many local students also( I may be your first student). There are not many qualified scuba instructors here, so.....
If you’re also interested in teaching younger kids; at secondary level, then you can try the Northfields school or Le Bocage International school. These are some private secondary schools where you would be able to teach English or Business, I think 🤔. Here also you can send your applications even if there’s no open vacancies(you really have to be shameless in this country to find a job😅). As for public secondary schools they accept applications only from locals.
And yes, I think that’s it. You should try sending your applications to some institutions and there may be others that I may have missed.
I hope there are others on this platform who can help you more or correct me if I have some misleading info on this post.
I wish I may have been of some help to you.. I would be glad to answer any of your future questions, as far as I can.
