Do I need a lawyer?

Post new topic

FlowerchildUSA

Hello! I am planning to move to Lisbon in October on a residence visa and then a residence permit. I will also need to get an NIF. Am I better off hiring a lawyer in Portugal to help navigate all this, or do most people take care of it themselves? And if a lawyer is recommended, does any have any references for an honest English speaking one? I could use a good real estate broker for an apartment rental too ;) Thank you!!

Fred

An honest lawyer - I love a good oxymoron  :D

More seriously, avoid estate agents and try to find a property yourself. All that lot do is add a layer of cost, but you can't trust many of them so you're still taking a risk.
Explore websites if possible - Google translate will help you.

Thanks for the advice ;)

I have no idea about that site but, even if it's no good for the OP as such, it does give a start as to what agents are charging. As a Yorkshire lad, I'd try to find places not controlled by agents, and compare prices of similar properties.

Hello,

NIF:
The Request for a Tax Identification Number (NIF) is now available online.

https://eportugal.gov.pt/noticias/pedid … m-nascidos

Foreign citizens no longer need to go to a tax office to make their NIF application. Thus, while this pandemic lasts, requests for NIF by foreign citizens are made through the e-Balcão, by a tax representative (citizen resident in Portugal).

If you already know someone with NIF having tax residence in Portugal, he/she can be your tax representative and request the NIF for you here:

https://www.acesso.gov.pt/loginRedirect … artID=PFIN

Visa:
this visa application can be made online without third parties involved. Due to the entry restrictions still in force, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, this system currently only processes national visa applications. But you can register, see the options available, ... During this first quarter, everything is very complicated.

The e-VISA is the platform of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed at simplifying visa application procedures.

Visa applicants receive a personal access code that allows them to follow up the process online, broken down into four stages:
1. "registered application" / "pedido registado"
2. "application under examination" / "pedido em análise"
3. "application granted or refused" / "pedido deferido ou indeferido"
4. "visa issued" / "visto emitido"

This e-Visa Portal is available in the following languages: Portuguese, English, French, Ukrainian and Russian.

Lawyer:
If you don't get the above steps by yourself and still need a lawyer:

Google tip: search at "Visa lawyer Portugal"

Your legal lawyer must have identified clearly in their "About us" webpages:
"Registo na Ordem dos Advogados" / Portuguese Bar Association registration
and/or
"NIPC" (Número de Identificação de Pessoa Coletiva) / Legal Person ID Number

Choose one with the address in Portugal and get in touch by phone or email.

Almost of these lawyers speak english, so don't worry about that.

Best regards  :)
