Dear All,

Am Kiran from India. Currently working in Netherlands. I got proposal to move to Madrid Spain. Need your help to decide.

1. We are family with wife and 2 kids ( 7 years and 5 years) .  what would be general expenditure ? What would be ideal salary to move there ?
2. How is the schooling ?
Do we have english public schools or bilingual  public schools ?
Do we need to pay fee for public schools ?
3. Do we get tax exemptions or family benefits. for example in Netherlands we get 245 euro child benefit per quarter.

As per the following site do we really get child benefit ??

If you have children under 25 living with you, you can claim an additional allowance of:

€2,400 for the first child
€2,700 for the second

Hi Am Kiran,

I just moved from US to Madrid a few months ago. I am a Spanish national.

With regards to your questions:

- A salary of about 50k Euro should be enough for a family of 4.
- You can find an apartment in Madrid to rent in a nice area for about 1000-1200 Euros per month.
- There are no child care vouchers unless your salary is very low.
- Public schools are very good and you have the option to choose from bilingual or non-bilingual. Bilingual schools offer 3h English sessions per week. I would suggest that if you decide to move, you start learning a bit of Spanish to get by.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Cheers!
Susana
