Hi Everyone,

I would like to share the fact that we moved partly from Goa to Porto about 10 years ago. We loved the city and enjoyed discovering all the little towns and villages around it.After a couple of years we were determined to buy a farm in Alentejo which we both loved.

About 6 years ago we bought an Olive farm in Reguengos de Monsaraz on the banks of the Alqueva which was beautiful. Unfortunately it did not have a house on it and despite repeated attempts we could not get permission to build anything on it. It was with a heavy heart we decided to sell it as our dream was to live on the farm.

We finally sold it last year and bought a farm near Serpa in January 2021 which has a 2 bedroom house on it. We are looking forward to enjoying the rest of our lives in this piece of land which is so peaceful and relatively unspoilt beauty.

I must emphasize that the whole process right from 10 years ago has been so smooth and pleasant in all our numerous dealings. The people on the whole so welcoming friendly and helpful. The natural beauty is so appealing and the cost of living is comparatively much lower than most other countries and of course the food and the wine are awesome.

I must say that it has been most rewarding and also some of the best experiences in my life.

Viva Portugal !

The Alqueva landscape is protected for the last 20 years or so, new buildings are not allowed, especially near Monsaraz, also because of the view from the castle over there to the great lake.

Some videos in english, for those who don't know Alentejo yet, and might be interested in joining your eco comunity project:
