Hi there,

My name is Prince and I am working in Germany from last 4 year and having Blau card which is valid up to 2024, I have a question, recently i bought a 2 year old car in Germany, and now due to some personal reasons i need to change my job and Relocate to Aarhus - Denmark.

Can you please advice me if i can drive my car with German Driving License and Car registration in Denmark. do i need to re-registrated my car there in Denmark. do i need to pay some import duty or some tax..? how can we determine how much tax we need to pay for the import.. how this Import and tax value is calculated.

Looking forward for receiving your Expert advice.

Regards
Prince

No you can’t unless you continue to live in Germany.
It’s prohibited to live in Denmark and own and drive in a German registered car. If you get stopped by the police, the fine is twice the danish duty fee including the fine itself (which is pretty expensive).
Denmark is quite strict when it comes to drive in a foreign car.

Hi Prince,

You can work in Denmark 185 days or less within a period of 12 months without having to register in Denmark.

Otherwise, you have to register your car within 30 days. The registration fee depends on the individual car, age, new price, estimated price today and whether is is an electric car, a diesel car or a petrol car. However, you shall expect the registration fee to be high.

SKAT can give you a binding response on how much the registration fee will amount to. However, the response time is currently 9 weeks.

You can also make an indicative estimate yourself.

To do so, you shall know how much a new car will cost today. Search on autoforhandler + car brand
You shall also how much your car is worth today. Search on brugtvognsforhandler + car brand or e.g. use one of these two sites for that:

Hi Prince,

Concerning the driving license. Since almost two years ago, you can now keep your driving license to drive in Denmark if it's a license that's been issued in an EU country. Before it was required to change it for a Danish one.
