I'm tasked with moving our factory from China to Malaysia. We are a Wholly Owned Foreign Enterprise from the US.

Hoping someone can advise on what areas in or near KL are factories located.

Hoping we can be somewhat near KL proper.

Thanks for your help.

What kind of factory you are having ? Properly you can consider Klang or Shah Alam, easier for you to move any equipment from Port Klang.

You can email me at : chongsy@mgmt.multicargo.my

Klang and Shah Alam are where many factories and companies are located. In preference I would choose Shah Alam rather than Klang though as it's just off the Federal Highway which leads into the city. Other places are possible too which are more in the city such as near Cheras and and along Jalan Ipoh direction. A lot depends on the size of factory building you need and budget and I am no expert. But closer to the city means higher rent in general. You can also google the industrial parks in the KL area. There are actually so many areas you could locate to but you need to make some kind of study or research to find the best location as far as transportation, costs, etc.

There are actually so many areas you could choose of. But I suggested you should choose Pengkalan Chepa Industrial Estate, Kelantan. Here, rental / buy factory premises are relatively among the cheapest in Malaysia. Locate at East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Less than 50km from Thailand border. Labours cost also relatively cheap around US$300 per month. Infrastructures quite good, train, airport, port etcs... local government taxes low...

Johor Bahru is also an option. Next to Singapore.

Thank you all!!!
I think we'd like to stay near KL. . . I've been here in China for 13 years running the factory and have learned that I need to be near some type of western places. . .

Got a feeling this move isn't going to be a lot of fun. . . but still looking forward to getting out of China. .

Hi,

Which city have you been living in China?   I am intrigued because I have a plan to relocate to China in two years time - if the COVID situation doesn't get worse...
Welcome to KL by the way, this is a lovely cosmopolitan city, people are warm and welcoming, the standard of living is on par with other cities, yet the cost of living is relatively low.

Hi, my name is AK, and I am from USA staying in Malaysia. If you like,  please give me a call on WhatsApp: ‪+353 83 058 8469‬ to discuss your factory relocation from China. I have also worked and lived in Xiamen, China for long time.
1. What type of factory you are planning to move?
2. What products you manufacture?
3. Your timeline?

Thanks

Don't even think about it. The local Govt guidelines in Malaysia is very bad and unclear. Lot of companies has moved entire factory to Manila.

I lived in Xiamen, China. Nice place and still have condo there. I came to Johor, Malaysia for a month January 17, 2020 and I got stuck here for the last 14 months due to COVID-19. Chinese government cancelled all foreigners valid Visas issued before March 2020. Now must apply for new visa but the visa office at Chinese embassy been closed. I miss my sea view condo in Xiamen.

I have some experience in setting up business and factory operation for a Singapore company to Johor Bahru, Malaysia.   Would you like to consider Johor Bahru as your base.  This city is unique because it is the nearest to Singapore.  There's 2 causeway between JB and Singapore.  Standard of living, rentals are basically lower than in KL. Labour is abundant and wages are lower too.  KL being the capital of Malaysia, is more congested and of course has good infrastructure and  their benefits.  However, many foreign investors do pick JB as their South east operation base.

Many developers from China are also in JB developing hugh projects eg  R&F Princess Cove, Country Garden, Forest City.   If keen, I can be contacted at 6016-7667211.

Hi Gia. . .  I live near Shenzhen or about 30 minutes from Hong Kong. . .

Are you coming to China for work or to live or both. . .

tiorocky

I live near Shenzhen or about 30 minutes from Hong Kong. . . things in China are changing fast. . . in the past 12 months our lease went up 40%. . . labor 50%..> shipping cost 100%. . . raw material 30%. . . and it appears it will continue to raise. . . .

Not what it used to be. . .

GiaRobertson

Shenzhen, yes I have been to that city several times.  I work in global supply chain management, so I know about the problem of runaway costs over there, it's been like that for many years.

You may want to consider contacting one of several corporate relocation companies in Malaysia who can take care of business/company setup, logistics, moving of the staff, housing, visas, bank set up, accounting, meeting legal requirements, deciding locations and then negotiations for space, whatever is required. They can get/provide visas for coming to explore everything and basically hold your hand through the many processes. You can google for them.
