Travel right now with Visa and lockdown

Has anyone struggled to get flights from the UK to Portugal with a national visa? I phoned VSF Global and they said it's fine, but it would be good to hear from others that have or haven't flown recently.

In January I had flights scheduled in March and April from Portugal to UK both cancelled, so Ryanair knew something at that time!

My next flight back is July 01st but if a £1700 charge for solitary confinement is still in place then I won't be returning.

Then once in UK, you may find difficulty in returning, especially if you have no Portuguese Residency.

Governments are using all means in an attempt to stop people travelling and to force them to stay put.

Ok, so you haven't flown out to Portugal this year? I understand the UK is being very strict with incoming traffic at the moment.

slugsurmamates

No.
Right now I wouldn't consider it.
Flights being cancelled.
14 day legal Quarantine in hotel you pay for yourself (£1700 )..
£10000 fines for non compliance.
More testing costs on return to Portugal likely.
I was caught last year in November with one side of Government insisting I stay in UK and not even travel oitwith area or to airport unfer threat of fines or arrest.
At same time I had HMRC Tax Authorities insisting that I get out of UK (during national Lockdowns!) otherwise I lose all my NHR tax advantages and, very potentially, my Portuguese Residency benefits.
Travel at your own risk and font expect any understanding from governments if you break their insane and illogical demands.

Do you think this will change in the future? Our plan is to fly early June to Faro.

Don't you read the news? Portugal is no longer on the UK red list as of March 19th:

That means you dont have to pay for Hotel Quarantine just self-isolate and test.

You still need legal reasons to be able to travel.

Don't you read the news?

UK has decided that to fly to Portugal in holiday - red list or not - before end of June will mean a £5000 fine.
That was decided yesterday

It's a balance....You can still fly if Portuguese Resident etc.
I suspect flying early July UK to Faro is a better bet than early June or May.
Yet everything can change.

If you already have a booked flight in June, beware that airline may cancel or reschedule anyway.

with regards to news I was referring to the UK Hotel Quarantine which you obviously did not know about!!, i would not advise flying for Holidays, and  i repeat as i said already, only travel if you have legal reasons.

I am not going on holiday...I posted this in the Visa category of the forum. I am emigrating with my family for work, personal and health reasons. I would only book our flights after acceptance of a National Visa.

In the UK one of the way you can travel is for work or other official business. A visa is official business and my understanding of a visa is that it is legal permission to travel to a place of residence.

And perhaps you were ignorant of conflating UK and English news?

The exemption allows people to travel abroad “in connection with the purchase, sale, letting or rental of a residential property”. Those activities include visiting an estate agent, developer sales office or show home, viewing residential properties to rent or buy, and preparing a property for moving in.
