Moving to Mexico just before the crisis

Hi everybody,

Taking the plunge and daring to move abroad is a real challenge, but when your move to Mexico is marked by an unprecedented health, social and economic crisis, as we have been experiencing for just over a year, this change can be much more significant and demanding. If you moved to Mexico shortly before or during the pandemic, we would like to know more about your experience.

When and under what circumstances did you move to Mexico?

What impact did the restrictions have on your integration into the country?

Were you able to make new friends in your host country and get used to the new culture and environment?

Have you had the opportunity to discover the country or the region where you are staying despite that?

Do you feel "at home" in this new place?

We moved to Puerto Vallarta 8 years ago. We are comfortable here. Driving can get a little weird but still do it everyday. Learn the language will help you immensely as you will truly know how funny and genially sweet Mexicans are. There is definitely a cast system here. Medical care is more efficient then the States as your doctors are usually on time. Pandemic has been an inconvenience as for everywhere. We wear masks in public areas such as restaurants but remove immediately . We also get our temperature taken before entering any public building. Never did understand why they require to step in disinfectant solution before you enter any building. Kindness goes a long was and despise seeing anyone being disrespected by tourists. Tipping is a must especially to baggers at the grocery as this is their only income. The beaches, pools, gyms are all open. If you choose a hot area to move to as we do, there are still pleasures as the tourist have returned home. Less traffic snd lines. Hope this was a little helpful.

already wrote the most important. Been living in ACA 10 years. Now resident with country's medical insurance (Securo social) for <10000 peso/year, includes drugs and surgery. Excellent private doctors and dentists are abundant. Lockdown had some bad effects when only food stores were open. MX is more free than e.g. Europe with their C19 fights. I prefer to be in MX rather than North or East of it. Drug crime exists, tends to happen outside tourist area where I walk safely at 3am.

Thanks for clarifying. I am interested in the medical plan - I am 69 so would a plan for me be more expensive than your plan? Also, I am retired and would be on a pensioner visa as an expat. Do I have to file taxes on this visa as I would have no income made in Mexico. Thanks
