How difficult is it to apply for the residence cert as EU citizen?

We are relocating to Portugal on EU passports. I've been quoted insane prices for the below services, but though I will ask the forum first if it's something I could do myself. Is the process massively complicated? Did most EU or ex-EU (British) citizens on this forum managed the process themselves?
Many, many thanks for your help.

1) obtaining tax numbers in Portugal
2) Assisting with applying for the Residence Certificates as EU citizens
3) Assisting with my British husband's Reunification residence permit

Hi Kamila
Having done significant research beforehand, we took advice from people here and in Portugal and got ourselves a good lawyer to do all this for us and it was the best thing we could have done and nowhere near as expensive as we thought! Also, we were delighted to find that the lawyers over there do everything for you if you purchase a property - even sorting out your utilities and connections!  And all for a fixed, very reasonable fee which was agreed on our first meeting.
So - my advice would be to find a decent lawyer - ideally local to the area you plan to live as some of the Camaras have different laws.
Hope this helps?

Hi Kamila, Welcome :)

You can do this almost all by yourself. You don't need to spend much money...

1) NIF (portuguese tax number)

A. You can request in Portugal the NIF at any tax office or citizen's shop as follows:

A1. If you are resident in a EU country, as is your case, all you need to present is your identity card /citizen card and proof of address (utility bill) of your residence in Europe (Poland).

A2.  If you are resident in a country outside the EU, you will have to appoint a tax representative in Portugal, who must be a Portuguese citizen or have permanent residence in Portugal. For example, he may be a Portuguese accountant/solicitor, or someone who you know and trust.

Regarding professional services to these matters, you can always require a Solicitor. The Solicitor represents and advises/guides citizens and companies, towards public administration agencies, including SEF, AT Portuguese Tax Authority, Social Security...

Please choose one near where you are planing to live, in the following link:

Solicitadores / Portuguese Solicitors
(Search by Solicitor's Name, District, County, Town)

B. Or you can get the NIF this way (online), if you are outside Portugal:

2) Applying for the Residence Certificates as EU citizens

About the Certificate of Registration/Residence for EU/EEA/Swiss Citizen you have this information here. Simple and cheap:

3) Family Member's Reunification

If you are a third-country national (your husband) wishing to accompany your EU/EEA/Switzerland national family member (you) in Portugal for a period of more than three months, please apply for an EU/EEA/Switzerland national's family member's Residence Card.

Thank you, Mimi.  I will do a little bit more research first and if I struggle with the process, I will not hesitate to appoint a lawyer. Appreciate your help.
