Hello from the USA

Post new topic

SpeedPhreak

Unfortunately I am still here.

Looking to move to just about anywhere, but have my family to consider so I can't just up & leave to Brazil for a couple months then to Africa, etc...

I am hoping to make the move with in the next 2 years... deffinatley before my daughter is old enough for school (she is 7 months old).

That will give me time to learn a second language (maybe a third too).

I am considering almost anywhere in the world... from Canada, South America, Europe, UAE, & Asia.  Will probably try for Ireland (great grandparents were citizens) or somewhere in the Caribbean (girlfriend doesn't like the cold to much).

Looking forward to joining the expat community.

Julien

Well SP, you could always consider singapore- very expat friendly. What line of work are you in?

SpeedPhreak

Cheekybeek... I would love Asia.  My only concern is my daughter... blonde hair, blue, eyed... 7 months old.

Right now my "job" is as a sales & distribution director for a national sports organization.  I also own 2 businesses... both successful & profitable... but both only part time.  I am considering taking both full time in a retail location.  1 is currently home based & the other is at a weekend market.

I have been many things however from a martial arts teacher to a bartender... I LOVE bartending... just no time now that I have a daughter.

I am really pursuing a 2nd citizenship as well... which is a primary factor in considering my move.

What is the climate like for expat families in Singapore?  How does immigration work?

Thanks to you & Julien

Cheekybeek

You wouldn't get dual citizenship. You could however get PR. If you have any male children who have PR they would be sujected to national service unless they revoke their PR beforehand. You can check out www.mom.gov.sg for more info on working passes etc.

Weather is a fairly constant and tropical 25-33 degrees Celsius- in otherwords endless summer. There are no seasons. It is humid all the time but of course you adapt fairly quickly.

It is the perfect place in Asia for kids- safe, clean, friendly, excellent schools and facilities, hospitals etc. You would probably live in a condo- lots of facilities like gym, pool, tennis etc, and you could easily afford a live in maid should you choose to.

There is a high percentage of expats here... so there are American clubs and an American school and lots and lots of people from all nationalities.
