Health system.

sarabren

My husband and I have been living in Spain for nearly 14 mths. We both have our TIE now. My husband has a pre existing health condition and is also a pensioner. I am only 56 yrs old. We have been married for 2 yrs and would like to get into the health system.
However, because of Brexit things have changed.
If my husband gets into the system can I also access it? The name on my passport is different from my married name. I haven’t changed it to my married name yet. My TIE and PASSPORT are in my name before we married. How can I get a medical card with my husband?

Well, you could probably hire a gestor to help you.

Is your husband going to be filing an S1?

I don't think the name matters. I am married 20 years and my married and maiden name are different. In Spain they use both: Like this'' Maiden name of Husband's name''
SO you would become''Jones de Smith'' if you were for example married to Smith. de means of or belonging to. Archaic I know but it is logical in the sense of continuity.

Children bear both parents surnames as in: 'Jones-Smith' and then when they grow up they just go by the father's name and the boy becomes Smith and the lady becomes Smith de Aragon , supposing your future little girl marries a Spaniard.
As far as medical goes you will both need a TIE and NIE to get medical, whether employed or not. YOu will both need private medical insurance after 2021. We are all immigrants here, no exceptions.

Informative post!

However, while it is true that all residents must maintain health coverage equivalent to that provided by the Spanish government, it is not true that every British pensioner must pay private health insurance. If they are already here in Spain then they should be able to set up an S1, which will provide public healthcare paid for by the UK government. https://www.spainexpat.com/gestoria/ser … healthcare
