Did you become an expat while working within your profession?

I mean, 1) did you go for a better job offer or 2) because there was no other opportunity in your homeland?

Or 3) did you 'use' your profession and left your homeland for the 'adventure' of living and working abroad? (asked for a transfer, resigned and looked for an opportunity in another country, to study a higher degree, etc.)

In my case I started off in the third category... and stayed abroad because of the other two choices.

Definitely the third category. There are some jobs (such as writing or software engineering) that are required everywhere, and I decided to take advantage of this. Today, no regrets, no looking back since the start of my (now long) foreign adventure!
