At one point, I was really bored and started working at a call center. It may not be the best way, but it’s a way.

To work here, you have to have residency, citizenship, or a work visa. Will you have one of those?

The above is correct. Without a legal permit it's really hard to get a job. Very few jobs are available under the table any more.

How much does it cost and how long does it take to obtain those things? Also do you have to have those things to open your own business.

To live and work here legally requires "one of those things". That starts in your home country, not here and you have to qualify.

Opening a business is fairly straightforward and does not require those things. However, legally you can own the business but not work in it!
