Dutch citizen married to USA national renewing passport

Post new topic

I am a born Dutch citizen living abroad in the USA married to an American.
I am starting the process of renewing my Dutch passport here in the USA. There is a question on the application if I want to add my spouse/partner to my Dutch passport.
What are the benefits,  if any, for my American wife to be added to my Dutch passport? Does it give her any rights or privileges if we were to move to Holland or stay for an extended period?

Hi again.

You can only add your wife to your Dutch passport if she is a Dutch citizen.

Apart from perhaps saving a bit of money, I can't think of any benefit of having your wife on your passport; for example, if one of you are out of the country, then the other is stuck at home.  In some countries, photo ID is compulsory, so again, you must always be together if the passport is your only means of photo ID.

Hope this helps.

Thank you that was helpful. She's an American citizen so will not add her then.
