IND hasn't sent letter for Residence Permit collection

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are well.

I've moved to the Netherlands 16 days ago on a 'staying with a partner' MVV as my fiance is Dutch. Though I have the MVV, the IND has still not sent the letter to my fiance (my sponsor) for Residence permit collection from any of their desks. The website says they usually send the letter within two weeks but we haven't got it yet.
How many days did it take for you to get the letter?

What are my options to get the letter faster as my MVV is valid for only 3 months?

Thanks for your help!

Don't you have a temporary card or some document that says you applied? I'm a Brit. living in Croatia but had to apply for a new temporary residence card because of Brexit. They also told me 2 weeks but gave me a paper card I can use while I wait for the plastic one.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

MVV is in itself a residency and work permit; what you need to do to finalise the matter is make an appointment with your Gemeente, register there and you will receive your BSN and DigiD number and you will be an official resident in the Netherlands.  You contact the Gemeente either by phone, or by calling in to make an appointment.  My memory was that the IND desk was next to the Gemeente registration desk and the whole thing was done at the same time.

If you have any specific questions for the IND, you can contact them directly; their website has all their contact information; this link will take you straight there.

Hope this helps.

Your fiancé could try and check in 'Mijn IND' https://ind.nl/en/Pages/My-IND.aspx to see if the residence permit is ready.
I also noticed a week ago that it already is finished but did not receive a letter from the IND until now. But I did make an appointment at the IND office I indicated when I applied for the MVV/TEV procedure for my wife.
If not then call the IND and let them know, sometimes the embassy forgets to notify the IND that the MVV was put in the passport.

About the MVV:
Provisional residence permit (visa):
In order to travel to the Netherlands, your family member needs a special visa, a provisional residence permit (mvv). You must apply for the mvv and residence permit at the same time.
As far as I know the MVV is not a residence and work permit, but I could be wrong.
The MVV is also only valid for 90 days, so you need the residence permit.
And some Gemeente want to see the residence permit before they will register you (although the MVV should be enough).

Hi there! So just want to clarify, if i register in the townhall first thing ( while waiting for my resident permit collection) , i would not need to worry about my MVV visa sticker expiration? Just as long as i register in the townhall?

I can state my personal case here as my MVV had expired but I couldn’t collect the residence permit as I was in quarantine. When I called the expat centre they said due to corona situation MVV no longer has to be valid at the time of residence permit collection. You can register at the Gemeente once you get your residence permit.

Hi there. When you say expat center, are you referring to IND?

That's my understanding of how it works; when you register and get your BSN, the system notifies the IND.

Thank you for your response.
I sent an email to the embassy in Delhi to check whether they have notified the IND or not.
I'll keep checking the status on My IND
