How long does an expat have to bring their car from the UK

Post new topic

Hi all, Is it possible to bring your own car to Portugal and matriculate it after a year ?
At the end of 2020 I signed up for residency (paniced). I have jow come back to the uk to sort everything out here but its taking longer than expected so I was thinking of flying back to complete my year required for residency and then come back to the uk again next year to tie up loose ends and at that point bring my car over. Would I be able to import it without paying import tax at that point ?

Thank you
Very much appreciated

Some of the details in the forum post are out of date - I have not gone through it in detail, but for example, the previous ownership requirement is only 6 months (instead of the 12 months as posted)

We bought the car from new but definitely won’t be able to bring it to Portugal until next year
