School Holiday Activities in Germany

Hi everyone,

Finding suitable activities for your children during the school holidays in Germany can be tricky. We'd love to hear your tips and feedback on how to keep your kids busy during the holidays in Germany, depending on your finances.

Which activities are your children taking part in this year?

How did you enrol them for these activities, did you have to sign them up for it in advance?

How did you find out about these activities in Germany (via their school, by talking to other parents, through newspapers, social networks, etc.)?

Are these activities charged or free?

How many hours per day do they last? Are meals or snacks included? Is a transport service, such as a minibus to pick up the children at home in the morning and bring them back in the afternoon, offered?

Thanks for your contribution!

Schools do not offer holiday activities in Germany, but lots of other organisations do - from boy/girl scouts to sports clubs to community centres, etc.
These are, of course, regional. Thus there is no general list or webpage. But you can ask at your school or in any youth-related facility nearby. Some cities even have holiday activity fairs, where most organisers have a stall.
My daughter, who is 12 years old, will this year attend a science camp, a play "city" (where kids learn how communities work - complete with various professions and their own currency) and a "cram school" event to make up for lessons missed due to Corona.
