Covid vaccinations

Post new topic

Good morning, I am curious to hear what the island makes of the various vaccines we are all using?  As we all know some are now regarded as better than others...  I see on the island you are making use of the Sinopharm one while here in Botswana we are using the Sinovac one - both of Chinese origin.  So hoping your Governmnet has no issues with Sinovac?

How is life now on the island?  Lock downs over or still on going?  Many vaccinated?  Does the Sinopharm one appear to be working for you?  Is the island planning to offer other vaccines or possible booster shots?

Now the 15th July has come and gone, are visitors returning?  There was mention visitors had to spend 14 days in a list of chosen hotels.  However most often choose a 7 day vacation on the island.  Is this still allowed?

Thank you

Natasha

We've Heared Mauritius will only open for visitors in Oct 2021, but if you vaccinated you have asses to the island, if not vaccinated you still have to quarantine for 14 days in approved 3star, 4/5 star hotels, but can't use the island only stay in your room for 14 days and two negative tests before you can asses the island.

Yes all the above has been published thank you.  Currently you do have use of the hotels, swimming pools and beaches so you are not restricted to your bedroom.

Hello everyone,

Around 40% of the population is fully vaccinated and free vaccination campaigns had/have been set up. So far, we had only 2 doses vaccines (AstraZeneca, Covaxin, Sinopharm, Sputnik). We don't get to choose which vaccine we will be administered, it depends on the stock and ongoing campaign.

The first campaigns started with retirees and frontliners, then came along teachers, public service workers. For the private sector (self-employed) people should register with the EDB : https://vaccination.edbmauritius.org/ to book an appointment.

We are given a vaccination card when we receive our 1st dose, it is filled and stamped by the officers of the Ministry of Health (name of vaccine, dose, date, our name etc)

People can get vaccinated in private clinics as well for Rs 300.00 per dose.

For people travelling to Mauritius, the authorities have not specified any particular vaccine. All of them are receivable.

As for lockdown, we don't have general lockdown but rather some regions, villages or towns where the number of cases have been increasing tend to be locked down and decreted as Red  Zone.

We could be receiving other vaccines but not sure yet which one. Sinopharm has been alright for me (no side effects).

The french embassy has arranged for Johnson and Johnson 1 dose vaccine for the french nationals residing in Mauritius as they couldn't get access to the local vaccination campaign for a while and because non of the locally administered vaccines are receivable in France.

Visitors have been coming but the mandatory quarantine is fixed to 14 days for the time being.

Regards,
Anou

Thank you Anou.  Sounds like much the same as us here in Botswana.  We simply get given what is on hand vaccine wise.  My husand had two Covieshild Astra zenica ones and myself the Sinovac ones.  We also have a Covid passport or booklet, with details written it.  So good to hear both countries are on the same page :)  Natasha

hi all, i just saw this 'All passengers arriving in Rodrigues must undergo a quarantine period of 7 days in a designated establishment under the Rodrigues Regional Assembly with a PCR test conducted on Day 7.' on https://www.airmauritius.com/covid-19-u … our-travel does any one know if that will be dropped as well in october? or does someone has a link with updated info about rodrigues? thanks.

ps. i know that there will be no flight to rodrigues till the end of july

I think they will remain alert when it comes to Rodrigues by maintaining a mandatory quarantine as Rodrigues has no record of Covid-19 cases, the island has been preserved till now.

Let us wait and see.

Pretty much the same yes. I think there are 2 versions of the vaccination card, one used locally (green) and one international version (yellow). It had been said that the whole vaccination card system will be reviewed and everything will be digitalised (QR code)

Thank you for sharing and very good to know.  We are then set to fly to the island later this year.  Now we just wait to hear is South Africans allowed in or we from Botswana can transit via Johannesburg.

Just a small update from some info i received about travel to rodrigues. For now Rodrigues is still closed. I have been in. contact with the Mauritian travel board and the rodrigues tourist office bassiclay this was there reply (The text below is only for travels to Rodrigues):

'As at date, we haven't yet received the confirmed protocol for the reopening of the borders. The Chief's Commissioner Office of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly is still working on the protocols to be followed with a clear and confirmed date for the reopening of borders. We shall send you the steps to follow as soon as we receive them.'
