Puerto Rico is very affordable compare to main land U.S. but has been turning to be a little expensive to live off Social Security as the only income it may be hard. Real Estate properties in good safe gated communities are very hard to get because listing don't last more than 24 hours specially if the listing price is between $90,000 to $200,000.

There’s also senior housing on the island, I’m not sure of the requirements but you may qualify. My mother in law was always told that she wouldn’t qualify for PR Reforma which is their version of Medicaid but she did, it literally took me 2 days and she was enrolled. All I had to do was enter the cost of her 3 medications and it was enough to qualify. I think it was around $800 for them without insurance.
