Hello everyone, i have a question and hope you help me with a clear answer

I have a 2 year resident permit as my wife is swedish citizen, its valid until august 2022. I got my social number but I haven’t lived in sweden. Because I didn’t find a job and didn’t want to move until i find one.

Now we are getting a divorce, my question is , will i be able to stay in sweden after divorce until august 2022 or my permit will be expired/ revoked immediately after divorce?

And Now I have a job offer in sweden, will i be able to work and change my permit from family ties to work?

Welcome to the forum!

Since you never lived here, there is a high risk that your permit will be cancelled immediately. I know that wasn't a clear answer as you expected but it is very hard to give a clear answer to this type of unique cases. However you normally can't change family ties to work, even if you already had been here. Actually this kind of a thing happened to someone I know she came here through family ties and tried to change to work visa after went through a genuine painful divorce but they refused.

However since you are from an European country if you have a job going on it is better to come here and take it and see what happen. If the current visa will be cancelled then you can apply for work visa as a new case. I would do so if I were you. Cheers!

Thank you for your kind reply.

I read on the Migration agency website that if the relationship ends i may be permitted to stay in certain cases, one of them i have work there. So I thought it may work like this. But i am not sure.

So basically they can cancel  my residence permit even i have job , will they inform me in that case or they automatically cancel it?
Thank you

Having a job helps a lot but it is not the only reason. They have few categories which they normally take into consideration before deciding, if a person should deserve to be granted  visa to stay in Sweden even after one's family ties would break.

If you have an address registered in Sweden, they will always inform you if they take any new decisions concerning you.

Once again, you have better chances if you come over and start to work before the divorce case start. It might  at least save the permit you already have. Good luck!
