Good morning, my name is Sahida my husband and I live here in London England. We moved here from USA lived in New York then moved to Florida. We have 3 grown kids. My husband's family is from Puerto Rico. We visited the island couple of times. We are now thinking about moving to the island and maybe work before we retire. My grown children would join us. Would be great if we had some feedback from anyone. E.g what budget we need to move there on rental property, car insurance ,health insurance how long will take to find jobs etc thank you.  :)

Puerto Rico is way more affordable that anywhere  in England, New York or Florida. That been said if you could afford living in thoses places you will live very comfortable in Puerto Rico with your budget.

I can answer a couple of the questions. Car insurance can be as low as $100 per year of you are happy with the government mandated liability policy, $4,500 per event I think. It’s liability only, no collision…. Google Marbetta  payment insurance.

If you want a policy like those in the US, it’s about $1,000 per year depending on car, coverage….
I’m 63 and my wife 61. Our health insurance is Triple S, the most common on the island. It is about $850 per month. About the same as in the US.

As for rental and purchase it is all over the board. If you want the best home in Dorado, $30 million. A really nice home in Palmas Del Mar, $2mm to $350k.

If you go to smaller towns, or inland much much less. We are in Palmas and I love the Island. I would suggest looking for 901 and 3 in Yabacoa south for about 15 miles on google maps. Click on a couple beaches or restaurants and look at the photos. St. John’s has nothing over these views.

And I am completely ignorant of the west coast, views, prices……

Depending on your budget rentals go fast. You can look at Facebook Marketplace and find some, also point2homes.com. There’s also clasificados online.com. Don’t use clasificadospr.com there’s tons of fake ads there trying to get you to send $$$ for something that doesn’t exist. I would suggest a trip first to see what areas you like to narrow down search. The salaries here in some places are not competitive with US especially in health care field, it’s shocking sometimes to know how low paid Puerto Rican’s are in many jobs. Best of luck in your search.

That’s exactly what I told my husband we need to go visit the island look around see if it’s for us long term. Get as much information while we are there and then decide. It’s a big move for us from U.K. I really do value all your advice thanks  to everyone

Also hospitals here are not what I was used to from US, you have to supply your own pillows, blankets, toiletries etc. They aren’t upgraded to standards I’m used to, my husband spent almost 24 hours in ER when he ended up being admitted eventually. The nurse already knew he needed to be admitted but they needed results of several different tests first. Go to YouTube and look for JenThereDoneThat or LifeTransPlanet both are expats & have great info.
