You are welcome. Remember that you have to put up a bond when renting so that money would help towards other types of accommodation.

Try contacting the posters advertising in the Expat.Com housing section. You might be able to negotiate and have a short term deal. Monthly prices are ok. You may also contact the guesthouses recommended in the business directory, they have a local feel to them : Guesthouses in Mauritius

As Anou said you should be able to negotiate a short term deal without any difficulty. Anybody involved in the tourism business has been badly hit by the lack of tourists, so will be glad of the business. There are lots and lots of empty apartments etc. in a place like Flic en Flac on the west coast.

You could also split a trip between different parts of the island to get different experiences. I met a Swiss couple and kids who did that a few years ago. A week in Belle Mare (on the beach in a house) and a further week in Flic en Flac in a less expensive apartment.

You might want to factor in whether you will be driving or not as some places are more developed than others (although renting a taxi is not a problem and the public buses cover most places).
