Hi  I will need to get DSTV connected to our house. Who does one deal with in Tamarin?  And where to purchase a DSTV decoder?  Does one then also need the satellite dish?  Do televisions in homes automatically pick up the local island channels?  I gather the news channels are all in French?  What are ( if any ) , the English options of keeping up to date with local island news?  Thank you

Hi Tashwilmot,

The company representing DSTV is found in Tamarin itself, try giving them a call :

As for local channels, not sure if you need to buy a decoder. News in english ae broadcasted in the evening at 20:30 on MBC channel 3 (15 minutes resume). The other news are in french, creole and hindi at different times of the day on the different channels.

Have a nice day,
Anou

Tash before you buy a decoder and pay monthly subscriptions for Mauritian TV, you can watch them online on several apps first to help you decide

[Keep in mind that Netflix, Amazon Prime, Britbox etc all work on a Smart TV with just a fibre internet connection (no TV Aerial or Satellite Dish required).
Even without a Smart tv one can make use of an Android TV box, Google Chromecast, or play through a laptop to the TV’s HDMI port.]

(most of these apps work fine once you are in Mauritius but require a VPN to work overseas)
