Trying to put together a small gift (easy to pack in luggage a friend moving from Canada to Saudi) of things you can't buy in Saudi.  I hear access to Starbucks and even ToysRUs but are there things like spices? Or other things that those living in Saudi you can NOT buy or miss?  Your help would be appreciated.

Well there are a couple of electronic items that arte not available here yet. Things get released here much later than when compared to the US.
I am pretty sure that you get most of the things that you do get in canada, but then I will let more knowledgeable ppl speak. :D

What you really should give him is bacon and beer or any kindda booze but they will take it off him at the air port and slap him with a hefty fine! since its a pork and alcohol free country.
on the other hand there are still a lot of food items that i can still not find here. like beef jerky or twinkies!! Gosh i miss my jerky! lol

Can you buy a food dehydrator? If so, I can give you the recipe to make your own jerky at home.

I wanna order one off of eBay just so I can dehydrate some fruit for my cereal too!!

Ok here is the recipe:

Jerky Marinade: (for 3 pounds of meat)
4 tablespoons soy sauce
4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (or what ever other flavor you like)
1 tablespoon Tomato sauce
1 tablespoon grated ginger root (optional)
1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper (more for hotter jerky)
1 tablespoon Curry Power (optional)
2 cloves Garlic (pressed or finely chopped)
1/2 teaspoon salt
Marinade the meat for 4 to 6 hours then drain and place on drying trays.

Meats:
Beef strips: Lean cut to 1/4 inch or 3/8 inch thick

Ground Beef: 3 pounds ground Chuck or lean beef (not hambuger)
mix Marinade in meat well let sit in Frig for 1 to 2 hrs. press flat between wax paper to about 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick.

To Dehydrate:
Use the highest setting for your dehydrator if you have a good one that has Temp controlls then the Temp should be 155F (68C) (in Oven 160F (71C))

Dry for 2 to 15 hrs depending on thickness of meat and load in your dryer. Blot/Pat meat with paper towels every hour to remove surface oils. When done take out of trays and rap in paper towels and let stand untill cool.

Storage: Place in refrigerator or freezer for long shelf life. Left out at room temp the Jerky will go rancid after 3 to 4 weeks
