Hello all,

I'm being offered a job in Herlev and wanted to get some opinions on the salary offer and cost of living in copenhagen(or around copenhagen).

I'm married having 2 kids - 2 Year old daughter and 8 year old Son. My wife will look for Job , so she'll have no income .
I'm being offered a salary of 48,000 dkk/month, also 5% pension deduction .

- Based on online calculators it appears that the take-home amount will be around 30,000dkk. Is this good enough for a family of 4? What sort of life comfort level can be expected with such a salary?
- What to expect for monthly expenses for a family such as ours?
- How easy/difficult is it to find rental accommodations.
- Any recommendations or things to consider before accepting my job offer?
-Any suggestion on area for Rental accommodation(Job location Herlev), considering kids schooling and Kinder garden.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Sunny,

Taxable income 580,000 kroner, Herlev municipality, your wife's income 0, tax 147,164 kroner. Disposal net income 432,836 kroner yearly/36069 monthly
If the taxable income is 600,000 kroner, the net income will be 446,249 yearly/37,189 monthly.

However, you have also been offered a pension scheme. Normally, the employer will deposit 2/3 of the pension scheme, you yourself 1/3. The employers part will be held out of taxation, yours part will be deducted before taxation.

I will understand the offer so that you llget 48,000 kroner and that you shall deduct your part of the pension scheme in this amount before the taxation.
Normally, the employer will pay 9-10 % as his part.

Thank you for your prompt reply related to Tax and explanation related to Pension.

Can you help me in my other queries,
- What to expect for monthly expenses for a family such as ours?
- How easy/difficult is it to find rental accommodations.
- Any recommendations or things to consider before accepting my job offer?
-Any suggestion on area for Rental accommodation(Job location Herlev), considering kids schooling and Kinder garden.

I would say 14-15,000 kroner for a flat, other 3,000 kroner for the utilities. However, heating and electricity have increased much in 2021. Expect about 18,000-19,000 kroner in total.

Household estimated 6,000 kroner.

Do ask for help regarding the housing market regarding advice, rent, deposit, practical help to find a suitable housing. Some ads are more serious than others, and every area has its special characteristics. I am not a local why I cannot come it closer, but the HR can. Flats are nearly almost unfurnished, and you shall expect to pay 2-3 months rent in advance and similarly a deposit.

The overall quality of the state schools are high, however, some better than the others. It depends also in which area you'll settle.

Any recommendations or things to consider before accepting my job offer?

Yes, you and your family being happy. Culture shock can be a big thing.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.  :)

You're always welcome to ask questions, get answers elaborated etc.

Regarding schools, Europaskolen is as far as I can see the only one with free education. https://europaskolen.sag.dk/
Another school with decent prices is Bagsværd Kostskole
https://www.bagkost.dk/bagsv%C3%A6rd-ko … ium/priser
Otherwise, the state schools iverall offer a fine education, but look for a school where most pupils speak Danish which will help your kid to be integrated in society.

Transport is a special issue. Therefore find a housing with good connections to your work place, e.g. a housing far away may have easier access than a closer one.
