Hello Steven! Welcome to our lovely country. You dont have to worry about security issues in the streets because they are scared of Kungfu! Thanks to Bruce Lee and the crew!

Steven H

okay, thanks your advice, what's your name?can you tell me some interesting thing,or some behavior i should careed

Christine

Hi Steven H,

Welcome to Expat.com! :)

I hope you get lot of new contacts on the site.

Steven H

thanks.could you tell me is any place have a lot of electronic product, like mobilephone ect.

.commilka

welcom to nairobi city, you can get electronic stuff in moi avenue, tom mboya street which is fairy safe and also riverroad which is the down town of nairobi but here you need to be abit cautious of who you deal with.

enjoy your stay

Weldon

Electronics are available in plenty! many shops.Always advisable to buy from the shops that have labelled pricetags becoz when you are a visitor there are high chances that they may sell you in very high unreasonable prices that you may not realize. Its even more better when you have a kenyan friend or expat who have stayed here for long and understands these street price games.
You will get alot of friends Steve, no worries here! Well and with behavior or any cultural shock(hehehe..) that you may encounter,I guess you are prepared to learn and adopt all the time. No rules. No offence for our culture when you are a visitor and adapting.
Here are things most common:
1. pple here sometimes like greeting and shouting hi to visitors and you will encounter this alot.
2. Small kids begging for money in the streets never give up easily.
3. When you are buying something they will always start with the highest price (like crazy high for visitors)and you need to adapt very fast in bargaining smartly.Except in supermarkets and other stores where prices are labelled.
4. many many other things which you will learn here!!

Steven H

thanks friend, the imformation you offer is useful for me ,i am looking forward to meet you ,you know for new comer they will choose hotel to stay and continue working, but that way is short time,i wanna to rent apartment for long term as my office,i just know how much cost in china no idea in nairobi, even how to choose good position in there, what else should i pay attention to?know much more bad news from website, the safety in evening was big issue for me ,all people who been nairobi ever has same feeling that don't walk along in street ,because something happen can not predict,i trust it.so for the rental of house who can give me good news?

There is a wide choice of apartments in Nairobi, advertised in the newspapers, online and on notice boards at the shopping malls.  The following links will get you started.

hassconsult.co.ke
neptuneshelters.com/properties/classifieds/Kenya/real/estate/0/rent/residential/nil/1/1.php
villacarekenya.com/search_form.php?lease=let&use=esidentia&adv=yes

Safety in the evening:  I certainly would not advise walking around Nairobi Streets after dark (7pm).  Going out in the evening is OK, as long as you arrange transport to and from wherever you are going.

Walking round in the day time is generally safe, although as a previous poster has said, you are likely to be approached by children and others asking for money.

Kenya is a beautiful country - very relaxed lifestyle.

Hello stephen, you can get also in touch with me my number is +254721805443,incase you need accomodation, car to rent etc regards my name is Roger

Weldon

hey Stephen!
Important things to know:
1. Business Location-How to choose depends on what clients you target, the cash u have for rent, how closer u want to be to the city, security, etc
2.Terms of contracts- some apartments may want you to pay deposits of 2-6months ,goodwill, etc yet you may be having a short stay here in kenya. That determines alot where to stay since you may like a place as an office but then terms of contract may not suit you.
3.Transport to and fro your residence. like traffic jam, accessibiltiy to your office i.e if you dont have a personal car an other transport factors you may want to consider.
4.Working environment-in some other places its very noisy and full of hawkers while in other places is silent and conducive for office..its upto you to come over and decide where you want to be..

And its important to note that the main factors are kind of bizness you will be doing and the cash at hand to rent an apartment.

Regards,
weldon
