English-medium IB schools in Mauritius - seeking advice

Hello!

Newbie here. There's a decent chance that my family and I will be moving to Mauritius early 2022, confirmation from my employer pending, hence the non-descript name tag for now.

Biggest question for now: which English-medium IB school for our 15 yo daughter? We would love to hear about experiences of parents with either Northfields or Le Bocage (the only schools fitting the bill as far as we can see?).

Perhaps even more importantly we are looking for children (appr. her age or a bit older) currently in either school (or having recently graduated) with whom she could exchange via email or Whatsapp to help her (and us) choose between either school. This would really be a tremendous help, as she is, understandably, very apprehensive about this big step, even if she has been in several international schools in various countries before.

Kindly contact me via pm. Thanks so much in advance, and do ask friends who are not on this forum please!

Hi there!

I completed my full 7 years of secondary education at Le Bocage this year and would love to talk to your daughter about my experience! My parents are also happy to tell you about their experience with the school.

Hi, our daughter will attending West Coast high school come January.  Although we are now living in Tamarin, we have still not been able to visit the school or meet the staff.  We are also waiting to hear if the children will in fact even go to school come January.  So not an ideal start to a new school year in a new school.... I suspect you may find the same with the other schools on the island.  So be ready for temporary home schooling should you arrive early 2022.

Hello,

So far, it has already been announced that students won't be going back to school until beginning of February. And only Grade 9+ should be going back to school then. This government decision stands for all schools - public and private.
Online schooling differs from school to school. Some (private) schools offer a couple of zoom classes a week with various homework and lessons to work on independently while others do full time online lessons and some other schools do something in between. This is definitely a factor to consider in your choice of school at the moment because this online schooling/ back to school/ part time / off again schooling has been constant since march 2020...

Good afternoon,

Here are a couple of private IB schools I have just looked for on Google. I cannot guarantee you however if the schools are recommended or not, since I myself, despite being a Mauritian citizen, have come back to my native country after more than a decade of living overseas and restarting everything from zero.

My son has just been enrolled for F1P (Equivalent of Grade 5/Year 6) at St Nicholas Grammar School, which also welcomes overseas students and for which I got some good reviews on Google. However, I cannot right now give a concrete opinion about the efficiency of the school, since my son has just started his experience there as a new student. Regarding distance learning, it was imposed by the Ministry of Education on a temporary basis due to the Covid19 situation with online classes conducted on Zoom together with an established online classes timetable. I don't know whether it is the case for all the other schools, but this is the case for the St Nicholas Grammar school, where they gave an online timetable with the Zoom code and password for each of the teachers.

For your information, government schools are resuming on 02nd February as per the latest communication from the Ministry of Education to resume for the 03rd trimester, but for private schools though, I don't know if this information is also applicable and I am waiting for a confirmation from the school on that purpose, as St Nicholas Grammar School is a private school.

Hereunder the list of schools and I hope you will find your luck there. Please note though that for some of the schools, the fees are really expensive, since they welcome expatriate students too.
