Does NIF / AT address have to be in Portugal for the D7 SEF interview?

Hello all,

I have just arrived in Portugal from UK, with the D7 Visa stamped in my passport & am awaiting my interview for temporary residency with the SEF.

My NIF / AT address is still stated as UK - my question is: Do i have to change this address to a Portugal address to satisfy the SEF interview or can I leave it at the UK ?

I am currently in rented accommodation and will likely move again before my SEF interview in June 2022, so dont want to permanently change the address until i have finally decided on the place I want to live, which is likely to be after the SEF interview.

Any advice on this will be gratefully received.

Hello Neale,
in the beginning we also had an international address, but as soon as we rented an apartment we updated the address with Financas. And when we moves again we updated the address. It probably works online these days (JohnnyPT will know).
So, I would receommend just doing it. It isn't a big deal.
Cheers,
Thomas

Neale, I don't think that's a problem. The most important thing is that, at the time of the interview with SEF, you have evidence about accommodation for the following months in Portugal.

Evidence that the applicant has adequate accommodation:

But if anyone could contribute here about their own personal experiences regarding this visa, it would be appreciated.

Here you have a set of FAQs about changing address at AT (it requires translation):

Thanks for this advice. I was just trying to avoid repeating the changes needed, but I get what you are saying.
Thanks again

As always - thanks very much for your information, Johnny.

Hi Neale,

The biggest challenge you face is that you generally get a letter at your new address with codes, this to avoid fraud and people declaring an address in which they are not actually staying, so practically speaking, if you do not where you are going, it will be difficult to change the address until you do.

Good question as to whether SEF will actually demand your NIF be changed ahead of the interview - I have never asked any of our clients but I imagine that it would not make sense for SEF to ask for this as you are only actually entitled to residency AFTER the SEF meeting.

Where you will definitely need to change the NIF address is if you then intend to apply for NHR, and if you are close to the 183 deadline/limit, do not delay or it may impact your ability to successfully apply for such a status...

Could I get an idea of timescales

Applying for D7 in consulate in UK - how long after submitting documents to get an appointment at consulate
-Getting D7 and then waiting for appointment at SEF how long does that take
Quietest SEF to apply to

I want to move to Portugal in October so when would be the best time to start applying, would now be too early

What is the benefit of inserting the NIF number in receipt of shoppings or medical bills?

neale_p

Hi. My D7 application was handed to VFS Global London and 77 days later I received my stamped passport back on 14th Jan 2022. Within the passport was a letter stating my appointment with SEF will be on 27th June.
Hope this helps

Helps with your annual Portuguese tax return, as I understand it. You dont have to provide receipts as this is now done automatically to the tax man against your annual submission.

question: if  you had to change your non resident to another non resident address can you do it online yourself or has to be the NIF representative in Portugal? This is what the text says but would appreciate confirmation.
