Hi
I am a healthy 64 year old Mauritian citizen retiring in Mauritius in March 23 after having lived in Johannesburg , South Africa for 53 years.

I have a Bachelor of Commerce Degree majoring in Accounting & Economics.
For the past 9 years I have been a Senior Executive in the Retail/Wholesale industry , employed by Massmart ( 29 years service in total ) who is 51% owned by Walmart , the biggest Retailer in the world.

Even though I am retiring , I would love to keep busy & am therefore enquiring if there are ideally part time ( 2 or 3 days per week ) or full time jobs that could make use of my extensive experience in many Divisions ( Finance / Taxation / Planning / IT / Supplier Negotiations / Leadership ... ) of the Retail / Wholesale industry.

Any constructive advice would be greatly appreciated
Thank you
Regards
Bernard Wiehe

Hi Bernard,

Welcome on board  :)

It will be tough except if you personally know people who have set up their business here. Most employers tend to fix age requirement to 40 except for senior executives perhaps up to 55.

Investing in a local business might be the way to go about it...

All the very best,
Anoushka

Dear Bernard

I strongly suggest you contact a HR Recruiter before losing hope.  Despite your age, quite a few do realise that experience, reliability and general professionalism often come with age.

I have a personal friend (Nadia Rochecouste of Integhr Ltd), who might be able to help.  Try her and let her know I referred you.

All the best!
