I may be working in the Shuwaikh Administrative Area, and would appreciate any feedback regarding areas to live.

welcome to the blog ma`am.

i would recommend you to get accommodation in salmiya.its a great place.the shewaikh administrative area is about 12 Km away from there.in this area you will find everything you need.from malls to grocery shops and everything.some Buildings and apartments also have security facility, internet and parking facility for tenants.

As for the PAY.according to me .i think that is a good offer as (i do not know your qualification and experience).compare it with your current employer and if you feel its better.then take it , you may also want to see the "salary trends in Kuwait" sticky topic in the forum,it will be helpful.

as for the accommodation rent,it will depend on the location , area and the facilities provided with it.check the link it might be helpful.

wonderful contribution Ace, cant add much to that :D

upon arrival, what are ur options Expati? is ur prospective employer offering accomodation for a month, a week or so in a hotel?

its easier to hunt for apartments in Kuwait by actually going around the areas and noting down the "for rent" signs and calling up the number. or checking the classified here (not sure if they are agents posting here tho, so they may take a fee).

best option is to go thru Waseet (im sure ur familiar with it) and scour it for apartments. like Ace said, Salmiya is your best bet in terms of having everything around u, altho it is a bit congested, small price to pay for having the beach within walking distance (according to where u stay) and all restaurants being a stones throw away.

Salwa is posher, but it has less amenities in close proximity to all, but they are within a short driving distance.

for buying a car, check out www.q8car.com:D

welcome to q8 in advance for when u choose to make the move

Legacy you are good!

ok, lets see, i'll take em from the top first:

1) in terms of benchmark, it would depend on your employer. your best bet is asking for a 2bedroom apartment in a nice area where amenities etc are easily accessible.

2) relocation; again, depends on ur employer. I work for a shipping company in Shuwaikh area with another HO in dubai, i kno that if employees were being transfered from-to there is a relocation settlement. but, then again, thats working for the same company. in your case, same or different employer? careful with the wording of the contract u signed, especially where it relates to relocation.

3) yes, security deposit is one months rent, reimbursed at the end of your tenure with the apartment, pending inspection by landlord.

to arrange a lease, all u need is ur good self and a residency. u can even rent an apartment with a visit visa! since u are employed they may ask for ur salary certificate, or continuity of salary as it is called in some places, or even a copy of ur work permit (which is kept at work, green paper, many boxes, type filled).

hope that answers ur Q and that ur still online afer i hit enter on this :P

Thanks!

ooh lala, al shaya, make sure u get ur employee discount card!

yes, i do recall seeing a bus with the alshaya logo emblazoned on its side drop off employees in a building in Hawally..

but wouldnt u rather be away from the work-folk? i mean, u see em day in day out, do u wanna be their neighbor to? u may be stuck with the pesky manager across the hall who insists on running the report numbers late on a friday night..

just sayin' ;P
