E-visa problems?

Post new topic

Kurterino
Hi all,
Have you heard of people not getting an answer to their e-visa application? A friend of a friend is claiming this happened to him, so I wondered if this is something that can happen? I don’t know how smart the guy is, since he started his trip anyway, without having resolved the visa question, and is apparently now in Bangkok. So maybe he just botched his e-visa application…Now he is planning to resolve the problem in Bangkok, at the Vietnamese embassy. But, as far as I know, you can’t get a visa at a Vietnamese embassy since COVID, right? And if that’s true, he should rather reapply for an e-visa on the internet and hope that he gets it in 3 days, than go to the embassy, correct?

Hopefully your friend's friend will forward your (absolutely correct) advice on to him.

Going to the VN Embassy in Bangkok will be a waste of his time. Embassies have nothing to do with evisa. Embassies fall under the Foreign Ministry. Immigration who issues the evisa falls under Vietnam Ministry of Public Security. Embassies when issuing visas will coordinate with immigration to ensure the applicant has no record of violations.
He can email or call the numbers listed on the evisa site for clarification. Maybe there is a reason they haven't issued a visa for him.

Is this person saying that like others they're "...not getting an answer to their e-visa application..." based on their not receiving a confirmation email, alone?
I'm wondering whether they have checked here.

Probably haven’t checked or didn’t copy down the application number.

As you and I have both seen in the face. book visa info group, many people are totally clueless about visas, which is fully understandable for first-time international travellers.

However, their ignorance is compounded by attitudes such as, "I really don't have to do this, do I?" and "Don't sweat the small stuff!" and a refusal to read previous answers before asking new questions 3 days ahead of a scheduled departure.

Also not reading the FAQs on the website

I wish I had more information, but this person really is the friend of a friend, and all he could tell me was that ‘he didn’t receive his e-visa in time, but decided to take the flight anyway’. And since it wasn’t a direct flight to Saigon, but with a stopover in Bangkok, he didn’t have problems boarding the plane.
Thanks to the answers / confirmations I’ve received in this thread, I’ve advised him not to waste his time and money by going to the embassy, but that he should either check and  resolve the status of his application , or reapply for an e-visa.

Thanks everyone

There are visa agents (including the major, reputable companies) that are offering to help for a fee, with some good results reported.

Normally, this shouldn't be necessary, but if he continues to have problems that might be the only other option.

Well, well, well. I did not know this.
Methinks immigration dep't heads just might be becoming dissatisfied with the current
online only application/payment process. Suffering caffeine withdrawls.

Not that I feel the need to stand up for them, but it's my sense that people who wait until the last minute to apply and people who submit shoddy applications have driven the need for special assistance.

In almost 15 years of coming to Vietnam regularly, this is the very first time that I have heard of someone having a problem obtaining a visa, so I do think he must have made a mistake himself (there’s very little chance that it was refused, since he’s just a regular tourist who’s been in Vietnam once or twice before).
