Internet Gambling From The Philippines

While living in the states, Las Vegas to be exact. I had many opportunities to gamble, it's not the gambling that had me visiting the casinos, but the buy one get one at the buffets. Who can resist having prime rib dinner for my wife and myself for $10 total USD. We've eaten more prime rib in a year than most in a lifetime.

I also played tournament Texas Holdem online for cash at the Vegas base casinos. When I first came to Manila I visited a brick and mortar poker venue twice to play tournament Texas holdem. For anyone not familiar with tournament poker, for your buy-in everyone gates the same amount of chips, thus limiting your losses.

I've been playing online for free, no money involved since I arrived in the Philippines. I have two accounts, each account started with 5,000 units, I've run one up to 5M and the second to 7M.

Sorry it took to long to get to the question, have any of you in the Philippines played online tournament poker for cash and what was you experience?

I hesitate because many of the sites are run by the Chinese and based here in the Philippines. So if you've had any experience, I would like to know about it.

Hard to see the tells when not seeing the opponents...   :)
And I want to see the opponents to judge their PERSONALITY too.

Even some of the poker sites in Europe are/were SCAMMING players.  (By SHOWING opponents's cards to someone done by owners, or by being hacked.)   I suppouse less control in the Philippines...

So I dont play poker about money through internet.

((I have played common 5 card poker much in my life and as grown up I never lost until I started playing some wilder, but Texas Hoidem face to face only once, because I find Texas Holdem tournament to much luck by crap players can winn a huge pot by luck and by that big stack geting far in a tournament. If playing careful as its possible in Limit 5 card, then normaly not geting into the small group, who get the price money, so Texas Holdem need some wild playing to get in top of the tournament
((The only Texas Holdem tournement I have played was same day as I learned the rules   :)   (I had played the qualification to World Championship in Renju. Finnished 6th but only 2 got qualified  Afterwards one of the others asked if I wanted to follow to the Texas Holdem tournement. Then he tought me the rules.  The tournement wasnt big but included three of the Swedish elite Texas Holdem players. One of them wonn, the other two didnt even reach semi final, but I reached final!!!      (I reached semifinal by calm play but low stack, but reached the final by playing stupid on purpouse and acted as a beginner in general fumbling cards and such  :) , so the other underestimated me. So  I got a rather big pot at triss in 7s while I knew the other two had two pairs (high).  In the final I had no chance against the winner, he crushed us others and had a much biger stack in start of the final than us others.
I dont like to play ANY "serious" game online, because I want to judge the personalities of opponents by LOOKING at them BEFORE I do anything.
E g when I played in Swedish Chess Championship (not the highest class) the first three matches I wonn be shocking them, playing the most wild openings against them, who liked calm.  Just before start if the 4th my opponent said:
-Finaly geting some action.
Then I played the most CALM opening, wonn by booooring him
(I were second lowest ranked in that group but wonn the group and got promoted by this psychology playing their minds  :)

Coach, you and I went round and around about this a long time. I played tournaments in Las Vegas and have two bracelets to show for it.

Regarding tells, the only good tell is the one you ignore. Your opponent can act out any impression he wants to give you. They watch too much poker on TV. Hoodies, sun glasses, ear buds and whatever.

It's easy to separate the players from the wannabees, just the way they bet and from what position they are betting from.

If somebody wants to read a tell on me, I am what they see on or off the table, so they can conclude whatever they want.

A secret in playing in Vegas, you go were the tourist are, they are the worst players. From time to time when I played at Green Valley Ranch or Sams Town on Saturday mornings, it was the same players at the final table, if the game paid nine places, we would call the game and divide the money up evenly.

Yes I'm aware of the scam you were talking about (seeing the other players hole cards) it was probably the biggest poker site at the time.

While in the states I played online also, the online platform was from Station Casinos located in Las Vegas (They own 10 casinos) No possible way they would cheat and have the gaming commission lift their gaming license. Started with $50 ran it up to $200 over a number of years, closed the account before moving to the Philippines with $1 and some change.

So back to my original question, does anyone here (Philippines) have an experience playing Tournament Texas Holdem online?

Few are that good actors so their acting can be a tell too   :)  although of the opposite of what they try to fool.

Yes. But when not seen, then that take longer time.

Well. Vegas is historicly MADE by criminals, and there is much corruption in USA, so it wouldnt suprise me if there are some cheating from Vegas casinos still  :)

The casinos HAVE kind of cheated by throwing out card counters in Black Jack. (Until they solved it by having  biger amounts of cards and end using them long before they are finnished.)

I was just in Vegas yesterday lol. Small world.

I loved living in Vegas, actually Henderson, NV (still considered Las Vegas) I hope you didn't park at the the Wild Wild West truck stop on Tropicana.

For other members on Expat.com, Vegas is called Sin City, it's not really fair, behind the glitz of the strip are 1.5 million people.

A blue sky 330 days a year, four inches of rain fall each year, no state income tax and a mailbox full of coupons of free gifts, bottles of booze & wine, best of all 2/1 coupons. It was cheaper to eat Prime Rib at a casino compared to a double whopper at Burger King.

Yes Jollibees too along with Chow King. 110,000 Filipinos living in Vegas, that's how I met my wife.

If you are planning a vacation in Vegas. . .Checkout Las Vegas Advisor website. They have a coupon book with many coupons for 2 for 1 buffets, restaurants and gambling coupons. The website lists all the coupons.

A secondary coupon book is the American Casino Guide, coupons are not as good.

Buffets are popular, check out the Palms Casino Buffet, Wednesday is Seafood Night, all you can eat Lobster Tails. Sometime there is a two hour wait. Get there before it opens, the first 100 people get on a list an hour before it opens.

At this time of year you can find used books on ebay . . .People take a trip to Vegas, then return home with many unused coupons. Be careful in checking out the book before purchasing from ebay because many of the better coupons may have been used.

But for us locals the casinos mail out coupon books for food & gaming from time to time.

@Enzyte Bob,

I play daily. MTT's and cash games. I also played for a living online before black Friday. And I worked in the business for many years. You should pm me and exchange FB info, then chat via msgr. I can hook you up with something that may be to your liking.

You know Morongo tribe bought Palms right? I haven't been there since it re-opened. But I loved it when the Maloofs owned it.

I parked my Semi at Wild Wild West for 30 days last May when I came to Cebu. It's being torn down now. Don't remember what for, but everything is being demolished.

After the Maloos, Stations own the Palms and now an Indian Tribe. Thee Buffet is now called the A.Y.C.E.. All after I left in 2018. I lived in Henderson very close to the Green Valley Ranch. I played some tournament holdem at GVR, but mostly played holdem at Sam's Town. I had many steak dinners comped at N9NE (not my comps, but my wife's Filipina friend)

For actual gambling Blackjack was my game but only if I hand a handful of match play coupons.

I played South Point tournament poker online (Free) and then it closed down. Then I played cash games tournament online from Stations.

I now play for fun (Free) at the Poker Allday website.

An after thought. . . I see you are a Canadian. . . .I had visited three Casinos in Niagara Falls. . . two on the Canadian side. On the Canadian side the only comped drinks are soft drinks. In Vegas beer & liquor are comped.

Amusing story. . . .Visiting the Casino on the American side I was decked out in my Vegas branded stuff (Jacket & Hat) from a big time, well know casino.

I sat down at the blackjack table and bought in for $500 all $100 bills, it got the Dealer and the Pit Boss attention. After an our or so I asked the dealer what he could do for me. The Pit Boss almost apologetic said the best they had was the Thunder Buffet. (I think the price was about $16 if I were to pay). It was good.

Several months later I did the same thing, this time the Pit Boss came over and whispered in my ear. He said Mr. *****, I'm still in the hole from your last visit, you have negative points.

Sounds like you're a seasoned gambler and know your way around a casino.
-@murraystephen2554

Yes I did know my way around the casino. . . . on to the buffets, run do not walk when you have a buy one get one coupon.

Gambling wise, only gamble when you have the advantage: learning how to harvest match play coupons and free play coupons.

(1) For example on match play coupons, bet $10 win $20.

(2) With two coupons go to the roulette table, bet $10 on both red & black, lose $10 on one bet, win $20 on the winning bet.

(3) Take your $10 profit to the buffet.

(4) Use your buy one get one buffet coupon.

(5) Over 13 years gain 25 lbs.

Having worked in gaming on/off since age 21, and growing up around the business (poker rooms in Calif) since age 13, as well as being a professional who's only income came from poker and certain +EV video poker machines which require 100% perfect play to have a small earn, I can emphatically say EnzyteBobo is not a "seasoned gambler". In the industry they have more unattractive names for his type.

As I said, I made a living in the business for a lot of years. But I couldn't ever tell you where the best cheap food deals were at a given time. Not worth the gas to chase such down.

Edit: no offense Bob

-@Larry Fisher

No offense taken. . .I'm not a seasoned gambler because early in my life looking at all those casinos that cost over a Billion Dollars (each) I realized who paid for them and I wasn't going to be one of them, but I did enjoy the comps the casino afforded me by the profits from those gamblers.

I didn't make a living off the business, not being in the business. I was a moderate gambler and not addicted to gambling.

Previously you stated you worked 4+ years as a trucker, 70 hours a week for 320+ days.

Yes Bob, the last 4+ years of my working life was as an over the road trucker. 320+ days per year, roughly 70 hrs per week. In 2019 I took 19 days off. Which included taking 5 days off to play the $1500 entry World Series Of Poker Millionaire Maker event in which I cashed for roughly $4500.

One does not have to be "addicted" to gambling to play. Some people are in fact recreational players whom are not addicted in the least. Some are professional gamblers that take advantage of minute edges where available, which is not often. Whilst some are professional poker players as well, playing against other players. Not the house.

Yes City Center/Aria (I worked at Bellagio when Aria broke ground) cost over $4b iirc to build. All on a tiny 2% edge as I used to say..... Las Vegas was built on a 2% edge. Think about that. ....Don't play against the house. Except for entertainment.

@Larry Fisher  You said "I took 19 days off. Which included taking 5 days off to play the $1500 entry World Series Of Poker Millionaire Maker event in which I cashed for roughly $4500." If that is not the definition of "addicted" to gambling, I don't know what is. This is not making a bet on the the superbowl or buying a lottery ticket or two, this sounds like compulsive behavior to me. But OMO. Call it what you want. 19 friggin' days of constant gambling???

@Larry Fisher

Yes Bob, the last 4+ years of my working life was as an over the road trucker. 320+ days per year, roughly 70 hrs per week.

Was that to pay off your gambling debts?

-@Lotus Eater

I did not nor do have gambling debts.

@danfinn, You sir (used loosely) have zero clue. I took 19 days off work for the entire fucking year. That means I WORKED 346 days of the year. Have you EVER worked even 300 days in a year? Those 19 days (I really need to explain this?) were spread throughout the year. I took 5 days off to play in a WSOP event. It was a five day event with over 8000 players. I made it to roughly 450th place for a win. I was actually out in day 3. So I relaxed for two more. POKER is a game of skill. Even courts have defined it as such. Something far beyond your grasp. That's not to say there are not compulsive gamblers in the world of poker. Far from it, there are plenty. But you sir are hardly qualified to make said judgement from one post (which you didn't even understand) on an internet forum. YOU decided I did 19 days of constant gambling. Even when I said I took 5 days off to play an event. YOU decided playing a poker tournament can only be defined as compulsive gambling. Do you see the self righteousness attitude and judgement you're displaying?

Sorry bud, you're not my higher power.

Larry Fisher said . . . POKER is a game of skill. Even courts have defined it as such.

**********************************

Skill is a big part of poker but so is luck.

Now with 8,000 people willing to put up $1500, almost everyone of them believe they are skilled. So a major defining part is luck with so many skilled players partaking in the tournament.

I've been beaten by poor players getting lucky, especially a Bad Beat.  For non poker players a Bad Beat is when you have one of the statistically strongest hand possible but it turns out to be a losing hand by sheer luck.

@Enzyte Bob You are saying it like many of the "entitlement disease" players of Las Vegas would say it. I once had pocket AA on a flop of AK5 vs my opponent with pocket KK and lost when the last K showed up on the river. My opponent had a roughly 4% chance of winning. Is it a bad beat? No imho. There's no such thing as a "bad beat" except those defined only in terms of winning a jackpot on the side. It's just statistical variance. I will win that pot 96 times out of 100. But I will also lose that pot 4 times. Is the guy with KK a "poor player" by your definition? I think not.

That being said, I do agree we can use the term "luck" in very general and broad terms also. But the skilled players will always come out ahead in long term results over the unskilled or lessor skilled. Short term "luck" will play a role in any singular event (or hand is it were) from time to time. But the skilled player also uses those skills to get the lessor player to put his chips in the middle when the odds are against his chance of winning. Even sometimes when the lessor skilled is drawing impossibly dead with zero chance to win.

I stand by what I've said and it's in simple language for non gamblers on this forum to understand. I've done my share of winning in tournament poker, one bracelet from Binions & a second one from the Golden Nugget on very limited play.

Maybe you should look up the terms of a bad beat.

@danfinn, You sir (used loosely) have zero
Sorry bud, you're not my higher power.

STOP trying to intimidate people just because you are defensive and disagree with what people say. You have done that to other people on the forum and that is why you get the negative comments. And no, this is not some contest where I give a sh$t if you call me "sir" as you did twice but if you come here with that attitude nobody else will call you that either. Higher power? Nobody cares over here.

@danfinn Pot calling the kettle black! YOU SIR, initiated by calling ME a compulsive gambler having ABSOLUTELY ZERO clue wtf you're talking about. Don't give me your high and mighty rhetoric trying to look better than and step on others whilst CLAIMING they are in fact stepping on you! Some people can actually see through said B.S. and will call you out for it.

First of all Bob, congratulations on winning your 2 bracelets and for your expert couponing to get discounted meals but this seems to be a bit of a false economy to me. You say you put on 25lbs in weight over the 13 year period so taking into account the amount of new, bigger sized trousers, shirts, suits, etc you would have been buying over this period to accommodate the extra weight - did you really save any money at all?

Also what do you think to my idea for the Vegas Casinos to include the following 2 new coupons?

Bet $10 and get new bathroom scales to replace the ones you broke with the extra weight from using our food coupons

Bet $10, use our food coupons on our excellent food buffet and leave with a pair of trousers one waste size larger than the ones you arrived in.

Just my thought!

Having looked it up myself, it seems that there have been a few deaths at this establishment including its No 1 fan of a heart attack back in 2013.

Actually my wife & I ate at Heart Attack Grill . . .You wear hospital robes (tied in the back). The waitresses wear retro candy stripe uniforms.

The food sucked.

Yeh I guess wearing hospital robes makes a lot of sense, saves time when the ambulance arrives and they wheel you off on the gurney to load you up in the back and take to hospital.
