September is here, bringing with it the promise of summer and a lineup of events you won't want to miss. From concerts to culinary festivals, and everything in between, here's your guide to the most exciting happenings this month.

Musical and opera hits at the MGI in Moka

If you're a fan of classical music and opera, the Musical and Opera Hits charity concert on 6 September at the MGI in Moka is a must-see. Featuring talent from the François Mitterrand Conservatoire, including Véronique Zuël, Sophie Némorin, Jean-Michel Ringadoo, and Jean-Paul Hennequin, this concert will be a feast for the ears. Accompanied by the Conservatoire's choir and orchestra, along with the Island Voices and Rainbow Voices children's choirs, the performance will include selections from West Side Story, Carmen, Cats, and Beauty and The Beast. Tickets range from Rs 200 to Rs 1200 and are available through the Otayo network.

Dragon Moon Festival

On 22 September, the Trianon Convention Centre will host the Dragon Moon Festival, a spectacular cultural event featuring 500 artists from Mauritius and beyond. Also known as the Moon Festival, this traditional celebration is all about joy and family reunions. The Chinatown Foundation has curated an exceptional concert with 18 performances, blending local and international talent. Expect a vibrant mix of songs, dances, martial arts, and a fashion show, creating a magical experience for all generations. Ticket prices are Rs 500 (bronze), Rs 600 (silver), and Rs 800 (gold).

The Mystik Garden X at the Ruins of Balaclava

Get ready for an electrifying night on 14 September at The Mystik Garden X, set against the stunning backdrop of the Ruins of Balaclava. International DJ Nora En Pure and the electronic music group Santi People will make their Mauritius debut, alongside more than ten local artists. The event promises a night full of surprises, with a third international artist yet to be announced, as well as performances by acrobats and fire-eaters. Tickets start at Rs 1800.

Drink & Draw Vaco Art at Caudan

Channel your inner artist at Drink & Draw Vaco Art on 14 September at the Caudan Arts Center. This unique event combines a painting session with a relaxed atmosphere, complete with drinks and snacks. For Rs 2100, participants will receive all necessary materials (canvas, brushes, paint, etc.), as well as wine, beer, soft drinks, and snacks. The session is guided by professional artists, making it a perfect blend of creativity and fun.

Screening of the short film ‘Pie dan lo'

On 6 September in Mahébourg and 7 September at the Institut Français de Maurice in Rose-Hill, you can relive the community's response to the MV Wakashio ecological disaster in 2020 through the short film ‘Pie dan lo'. Directed by artist Kim Yip Tong, this documentary highlights efforts to preserve marine ecosystems in the south and southeast of Mauritius. Following the screenings, the group Patyatann will perform on 6 September, and a debate will be held at the IFM. Admission is free.

Zumba at the Telfair amphitheatre

If you're looking to stay fit,, join the free Zumba sessions at the Telfair amphitheatre in Moka. Held every Monday from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm and Saturday from 7:45 am to 8:45 am, these sessions are open to all and offer a fun way to get moving.

Grand Baie La Croisette Food Festival

Culinary enthusiasts, mark your calendars for the 13th Grand Baie La Croisette Food Festival on 27 and 28 September. With around thirty restaurateurs offering a variety of global dishes, this event is a food lover's paradise. Prices are capped at Rs 225 per dish, ensuring affordability. The festival also includes activities for both kids and adults, making it a perfect family outing.

Moka Food Festival

On 7 September, head to the Telfair amphitheatre for the Moka Food Festival, where twenty Mauritian restaurateurs and chefs will showcase their culinary talents from 10 am to 10 pm. With a range of traditional dishes and innovative fusion creations, there's something for everyone. Admission is free.

Sales at Grand Baie La Croisette and So'Flo

Until 8 September, enjoy a week of bargains at the Grand Baie La Croisette and So'Flo shopping centres, with sales of up to 70% across various stores. Grand Baie La Croisette is also hosting a variety of activities, including pony rides, flash sales, a fashion show, and live concerts on 7 September.
