55 years of independence

It's been 55 years since Mauritius became independent and 31 years since it became a Republic. The anniversary will be celebrated this Sunday, March 12. For the fourth year in a row, the official ceremony will be held at the State House on Sunday. In addition, at the initiative of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Sports, young students have been participating since Thursday, March 9, in a relay of the national flag around the island. This event will end in Rose Hill on Saturday, March 11.

A case of malaria detected in the North

A case of malaria has been detected in the North of the island this week. According to the local media, the carrier is a 30-year-old man who returned from a trip to Equatorial Guinea. He has been isolated at the SSRN Hospital in the North to prevent any spread. In addition, fogging has been done in Goodlands and Pamplemousses, and an entomological survey has been initiated.

Reservoirs are filling up

As of Thursday, March 9, the island's seven reservoirs had an average filling rate of 74.8%: a 2.4% rise compared to Monday. The Piton-du-Milieu reservoir, for example, has reached 99.7%, the highest filling rate. The Mare-Longue reservoir was 93.0% full, and the Mare aux Vacoas reservoir was 70%. However, La Ferme is only 54.6% full.

Mauritius: a favorite destination for real estate investors

Each year, the Henley Residence Program Index 2023, a report by Henley & Partners, reveals the list of the most popular countries for real estate investors. The London-based firm helps investors find the ideal destination where they can obtain residence or citizenship. The document, released this week, reveals that Mauritius is among the 26 favorite countries for foreign investors. Indeed, the small island provides a range of benefits, including the possibility of renting out the property, residency for the applicant investor's dependents, as well as a safe environment with a pleasant tropical climate throughout the year.
