News of the week: The most instagrammable hotel in the world is found in Mauritius

Waste Management Bill passed with amendments

After a month of debate in the Assembly, the Waste Management and Resource Recovery Bill was passed on Tuesday night. This bill aims to create a legal framework for the circular economy and waste recycling management on the island. Environment Minister Kavy Raman emphasized the bill's importance in reducing pollution and promoting the circular economy in the waste sector. The law is expected to strengthen the emerging recycling industry in Mauritius and create more green jobs in the waste collection and sorting sector.

Trade agreement signed between the UK and Mauritius

Also on Tuesday, a Strategic Trade Partnership (STP) was signed between the UK and Mauritius at the Caudan Arts Centre in Port-Louis. The agreement aims to boost trade and investment in a number of priority sectors, including financial and professional services, waste management, green economy, education, cyber, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and agritech.

Memorandum of Understanding to address flooding in Rodrigues

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Mauritian authorities and the Regional Assembly to address flooding in Rodrigues. The Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Bobby Hurreeram, stated that the government is developing a long-term strategy to combat flash flooding and erosion. The protocol will identify areas vulnerable to flooding, share knowledge, and develop a master plan to improve the local land drainage system.

World Hemophilia Day celebrated in Quatre Bornes

On Monday, the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Mauritius Hemophilia Association held a ceremony at the Gold Crest Hotel in Quatre Bornes to celebrate World Hemophilia Day. The purpose of the day was to raise awareness about blood disorders and to advocate with local decision makers to improve access to treatment and care for people with bleeding disorders.

The world's most instagrammable hotel is in Mauritius

Luxury Travel Advisor, a platform for luxury tourism professionals, has named LUX* Grand Gaube in Mauritius as "the world's most Instagrammable hotel" in a contest that received more than 200 applications. The hotel won with a score of 32,637 votes against 17,159 for the Tivoli Mofarrej São Paolo Hotel. The LUX* Grand Gaube is known for its natural, retro-chic ambiance, sustainable practices, and commitment to environmental preservation.

The LUX* Grand Gaube, located in the northeast of Mauritius, has 186 rooms, suites, and villas. It has implemented initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint, promote environmentally friendly practices, use renewable energy sources, reduce water consumption, and recycle waste. Winning this title confirms the hotel's place among the world's most iconic resorts.
