Introduction

I'm a voracious reader, a passionate traveller, and a photography enthusiast. With my spouse, I've visited every state in the US except Alaska, and left footprints in 68 countries across 5 continents. We've also lived in 5 countries in 4 continents -- Asia, Europe, Oceania, and North America. I'm at my best when living abroad, learning a new language, and adapting to a new culture. Life motto: The world is too large to stay in one place; live simply and travel widely.

I am a female.

I am married. I am retired.

  • I can speak English, Vietnamese, Italian, French, and Latin American Spanish -- some very well, others less so. Can follow church service in Latin. Studied Sanskrit (2 semesters), Greek (one semester), and Castilian Spanish (3 semesters), but lost them all due to a lack of use.  My language bucket list:  Po

With spouse, spent 3 months on a cargo ship as the only two passengers voyaging from Spain to Chile and return. A near miss with pirates in Pacific Ocean off Peru/Chile/Ecuador. Upon returning to tierra firme, tried to learn Castilian Spanish but ended up exploring the region while eating pintxos and drinking txakoli instead.

Worked hard and planned carefully for the future. Experienced both the depth of darkness and the height of happiness. At the most crucial time, the meaning of the old Yiddish adage "Mann tracht un Gott lacht" became blindingly clear. Chucked the job, liquidated all assets, moved overseas.
