SIN number for Costa Rican Bank

Hi just about to open a bank account in CR and my lawyer is asking for Canadian SIN for the banking documents. Has anybody else had to give out this information?

I know i had to with regards to wiring larger sums of money to build a home plus 6 months of my bank statements and security signatures that better match your passport signature.

I opened a bank account 15 days into the country as a tourist. when I had to bring in money from overseas I went to the bank and fill in the paperwork, but no lawyer was involved.
