Entry requirements

Post new topic

Natasha09

Hello, I have had a search online but struggling to find a solid answer - so here I am asking the following:

1. I am British born and Mauritian by descent. My children have British passports. We plan to relocate and settle in Mauritius. Do I need to book return air tickets for my children?

2. My spouse is British, does he need a return ticket?

3. Do my children and spouse need visas or can they freely enter without a time limit?

Advice and info welcome!

Thank you.

Hi Natasha

im a Mauritian born and I’ve been living in London for 23 years. I’m married to a British born and he is Mauritian by descent.

Every time I go to Mauritius with my husband and kids, they are given 6 months visa because they they have only  British passport.

In your case, you will all be given tourist visa for 6 months and you can apply once there for longer stay when you are there.

if you hold a Mauritian passport, it won’t be difficult.

Hope this helps

Good Luck

Hello Natasha, I would suggest a return ticket for you and your husband, the immigration office here can be a little unpredictable and a nightmare, but you will need your return ticket to process out of the legal documents and visa.

You will need a little of accommodation as well, upon arrival, explaining in where you will be residing.

Since, you are Mauritian, your kids will just need to submit a citizenship form, as for your spouse he will need to be here for more than 5 years to receive his, should he wish, but for now I believe you all will have a residence permit.

also by the new law which was amended in 2019, it might be a little tricky for your spouse to apply for jobs here, this will need to be confirmed by the immigration office over at Port Louise.

I hope this little information helps.

Thank you replying, should we be applying for their 6 month visas before departing or are these automatically given upon arrival?

I understand a UK passport grants 60 days entry, so would like to know if the return tickets should be booked for 6 months or 60 days? We would then head to Sterling house and start the process of applying.

I presume my husband would apply for a Spouse permit, do you have any idea what my children would be applying for?

Edb do the work permit for professional and business person , if you're coming for holidays only the return tickets,  hotel or accommodation details,  for kids visa also required,  by marriage certificate in Mauritius your husband can stay as long as he want , you can call at immigration office and take advice .

Foreign Spouse need work permit from edb take business visa if you are planning for long term in Mauritius.

Google edb business Mauritius,  you can create user name and password everything is online,  medical reports will be in Mauritius.

Visa category under which visa your husband want to live here in Mauritius,  professional visa is for 3 years then extended to 20 years.

Under marriage visa after 4 years he can apply for citizenship,  work permit extra needed

If your children and your spouse do not have Mauritian citizenship then they would enter the country on a tourist visa, so yes they would need a return ticket.

I believe you can extend the tourist visa and also find out what other visas they would be eligible for by going to the Mauritian government website on the immigration section.

@faezabeeseidally the tourist visa for British citizens is only 60 days now after the UK left the EU.
