How long depends on a lot of things. More details are required in order to offer an answer.

You get a 1 month visa ($30) on arrival. Be prepared for the mother of all bureaucratic immigration nightmare queues if you fly into Soekarno-Hatta international. :(

I'm here since 5 months on voa. After 30 days of my arrival, I went to imigrasi, extended my voa, and 30 days later I went to MNL, returned, new VoA, and so on. Last week I extended for my 6th months at imigrasi, and continue my stay here.

Bureaucracy was easy. At CGK, and also at imigrasi. No hassle, free coffee at imigrasi, everywhere nice people. No stress, nearly no paperwork.
