Tourist VISA Extension - look-back period - is it a rolling lookback

Post new topic

Hello,

I will be returning to Brazil on April 5th and so far during the year since I first entered Brazil on May 23, 2022, I have accumulated 83 days.

1) Am I correct that I will need to apply for and receive a tourist VISA extension when I re-enter Brazil on April 5th?

2) Does the lookback period reset on the anniversary date?

3) or, is it a rolling lookback period?

Days in Brazil 1st 180 days from 5/23/2022 to 11/19/2022        68

Projected Days in Brazil 2nd 180 days from 11/20/2022 to 5/23/2023        64

Total cumulative days in Brazil to date        83

02/27/23 @rsahm99.  If you arrive on April 5, 2023, the system will look back at the 365 days prior to that date and count how many of those days you were in Brazil.   The number of days that the Immigration Officer will give you is 180 minus that number, or 90 days, whichever is less.

On the first of every month the oldest month drops off that lookback, and you get back any days you used in that month.  So on June 1, you'll get back the days you used in May 2022.
